@@PrimroseParadox no real point; you can load literally any file into a text editor, it's just - as you might know - kind of mostly a text editor, which does nothing but try to represent what is some sort of binary/vertex encoding format in a UTF-8 encoding. In effect, if we could load it, it would produce a bunch of unreadable text other than some predictable strings (for reference: 2:05) and probably consume plenty of memory.

.bsp is binary space partitioning, it is a map. .vpk is an individual MODEL.

Me when I spent literally around 8 hrs troubleshooting (read: nuking the everloving shit out of the graphics via console commands) Doom Eternal to try and get it to run on my potato pc. I _did_ manage to get it to run in the end, using the loosest definition of the word 'run'. I managed to complete the main campaign, but very nearly got softlocked by one particular parkour section early in the game bc it legitimately lagged so bad that it was almost unbeatable. We're talking seconds per frame, hear a button fire like 30 seconds after you pressed it and finding out that by the time it fired, you're already halfway through falling to your death. I'm still not sure how I managed to get past it in the end; I'm just certain that it was only playable by my standards. By the standards of any reasonable person, I'm absolutely certain it wasn't. Even now, on a device actually intended to run games more advanced than pixel graphics, my eye still twitches at the sight of a particular type of fodder enemy. They had flamethrower hands, which wasn't intended to do a ton of damage or be much more than a slightly more dangerous walking health pack. But they received as much 'shoot that first' priority as a miniboss enemy dropping into the stage, purely bc their flamethrowers would bring the framerate to its _knees_ every time. The instant you saw one, it was a mad dash to kill the thing before it could start shooting and turn the entire arena into a powerpoint presentation
