Give them a shot! They're fun. They take a bit to get it down, lot of things happening at each age up.

What do you think? What if we keep 3 vills on gold and build additional mosque to produce scholars consistently while we go for Tower of Victory, can you try something like that?

That may work too, but you'd have to give up something. If you go ToV and scholars, you wouldn't have rams. If you really catch them asleep and out of position, you can torch down the 2nd TCs pretty easily, especially with +1 ranged armor.

I will do one of those soon too! Mongols and Jeanne are probably the main matchups where I would try to go for the Tower of Victory, a few others may be better too, like English for example.
