CLASSIC Siliguri Street Food Tour, Part 2/3 I Netaji Cabin + Calcutta & Arati Sweets +Amardeep Dhaba

Siliguri is dotted with numerous old and busy eateries that can be explored for breakfast or brunch options. In today's episode we along with our gracious host Prerna from Our Guest tour company have embarked on a gleeful brunch tour across the city. The focus was on some old joints that have carved a special place in the hearts of the locals.
We started the tour with a simple yet irresistible plate of poori sabzi from Shiv Kumar Poori Sabzi in Bidhan Market. Because of its apt location, great taste and the jolly nature of the owner, this place attracts a huge crowd from all walks of life.
Next we reached Calcutta Sweets on Khudiram Pally Road after ambling down the bustling vegetable market on the way. Here we polished off some radha ballabhi with aalu dum, mishti doi and chenar jilipi. The former is a thick black lentil stuffed puri that has a deeply satisfying taste.
From there we arrived at the Netaji Cabin which is a heritage place in the city's food scape. Dating back to the time of Independence struggle, it had hosted legends from various backgrounds like politics, arts, academics etc. They serve basic snacks like toast, omelette etc. and tea. We ordered a poached egg and some tea which is known for its strong taste.
After this simple snack we went to Amar Dhaba for some North Indian spread. The genial and warm owner recommended us to try their dal makhni and chicken tikka masala and both of them were quite good. But the best part of this visit was the stories that we got to hear from him.
The final stop was a popular sweet shop named Arati sweets. They have a vast range of Bengali sweets that are loved for their quality and taste. We tried a few of them like baked rasogolla, rasmali and kheer doi of which the last one was mind blowing.

Baarish... n warm poori sabzi... aha... Likewise, 'mishti doi' n sugar sprinkled 'butter toast' are so much synonymous to Bengal... 'elaichi kela'... tastes excellent n is also far above in nutritive value... The best... n my favorite 'dal makhani'... i mean... warm, thick, creamy dal... wth tht glaze of butter, nd a mild flavour of kasuri methi... served wth 'fulka'...( a complete meal in itself ), along wth buttermilk may be... nd 'kheer doi' as dessert... sumptuous... heaven! The concept of 'cabins' is popular, as people can dine out, and still have their private space... also, the talks wth uncle ji, were adorable!!

That's Darjeeling tea. It does have a bitter aftertaste. But, that is the speciality of Darjeeling tea. I am from Siliguri and I grew up drinking this tea. Therefore, I love it. But I do think for others who haven't grown up on this tea, it can be an acquired taste for them. As for the whole series, I am super delighted to have chanced upon the videos. And both the hosts did a great job in exploring the food culture of Siliguri. This series made me miss my hometown even more than I already do. Keep up the good work Anubhav Sapra. 🌻✌️

This banana vendor is very gentle and good person. When I used to buy banana from him, he used to give one or two most sweet and ripe bananas as a gift to my son to eat. Missing Siliguri very much.

Go to zaika biryani house bardawan road. It's completing almost 25 yrs. First mughlai shop who introduce biryani in siliguri. Three partners who run this shop. No ego problem. Staffs and manager are well behaved. I think u will like the mughlai cusin. I regular watch ur vlog .

Born and brought up in Siliguri. Now i only go back to visit my parents. I have eaten at most of these places. But now the food scene is evolving with a lot of northeastern and regional nepali influences. such a great place for food. Hope you also get to sample old institutions like Tai Wah for greasy chinese comfort food

Good one and host also nice. But it would have been better if you have picked a local bengali host for Siliguri episodes. 1) Few things she was not able to interpret well whether it's Doi making process or quintessential history of those places or connect with the owners or other cultural aspects. 2) Siliguri offers various options and few authentic places probably overlooked. For e.g there was a famous pice hotel just opp to that Cabin with excellent fish curries, Bengali delicacies even people of Kolkata also visit there. You would have seen the pics of whose who of bollywood to cricketers pics who had food there. Not elaborating the list. Btw, Punjabi rest is just an avg similar to 2-3 next to it although the their hospitality and uncle's story is adorable.
