The Delia Steinberg Guzmán International Piano Competition is a prestigious piano competition held annually in Madrid, Spain. First established in 1982, the competition was created by the International Organization New Acropolis with the purpose of promoting young musical talents and providing a platform for emerging pianists to showcase their skills on an international stage.
The competition is named in honor of Delia Steinberg Guzmán, a prominent pianist and writer who was also the president of New Acropolis International. Steinberg Guzmán, born in Buenos Aires in 1943, is known for her contributions to music as well as her work in the fields of philosophy and education.
Over the years, the competition has consolidated itself as an event of great relevance, attracting candidates from various countries and enriching the cultural life of Madrid and beyond. It is an example of the positive impact that music competitions can have in promoting the arts and supporting the development of new artists.
In August 2023, Delia Steinberg Guzmán passed away, and therefore, this year 2024, the competition will have a special edition. Instead of competing, the winners of recent editions will perform in a tribute event on Saturday, June 29, at 7 PM, at the Teatro Victoria, Madrid, Spain.
Delia Steinberg Guzmán was much more than an exceptional pianist; she was a beacon of virtue and humanity. Her life, marked by a profound commitment to excellence and kindness, touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her musical talent was only one facet of her greatness, as her true virtue lay in her ability to inspire and elevate those around her. In her honor, we remember and celebrate a woman whose virtuous spirit will continue to be an example for all of us.
