Today on Healthy Cooking with Shayda I will show you how easy it is to make ready to use Garbanzo Beans from dried beans in the instant pot. It couldn't be easier, tastier and more cost effective. The method is fast and easy and takes less than an hour. I never liked garbanzo beans from the cans, until I started making them myself, and now I'm obsessed. Garbanzo beans are a nutrient dense legume, that is high in protein and fiber and has a nutty flavor and creamy texture. Its a key ingredient when making hummus and its delicious when used in salads, soups, stews, and curry. Enjoy

Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 pound dried chickpeas
6 cups of water
Preparation:
No soak method:
1- Cover the dried chickpeas with 6 cups of water and close the lid. Make sure to move the steam release valve to sealing.
2-Select the manual button and cook at high pressure for 50 minutes then allow the pressure to come down naturally. You have two options, to let the pressure come down naturally or to release it after 15 minutes. Make sure to open the lid carefully.
Soaked method:
1-Put the dried chickpeas in a large bowl and cover the chickpeas with 3 inches of water and let them soak for about 3-4 hours. Then toss the water out and rinse the chickpeas.
2-Add the soaked chickpeas to the instant pot with 6 cups of water, close the lid and cook at high pressure for 50 minutes. Let the pressure come down naturally. Make sure to open the lid carefully.
I prefer soaking the beans when making hummus as they tend to be creamier.

I watched this video because I have been less than thrilled with my homemade hummus (no salt nor fat). I ran out of my canned garbanzo beans and found tucked away a bag of dried garbanzo beans. These beans were OLD. I thought "what the heck! Try cooking them like Shayda says and remove the outter shell". An hour an a half to shell and very little faith that this version of homemade hummus would turn out much different than previous versions. WOW! For a non fat 7 no salt hummus, I am super happy with the texture. Excellent and well worth the effort. Your seasoning is perfect. Thank you.

Hello Shayda! 😊I tried your recipe right after watching. The beans were still hard after 50 minutes and a 30 min NPR. My beans were in date and not old. I will cook them another 15 min. I seem to never have success with cooking garbanzo beans in the IP. Ty.

So did you pre-soak the beans? if you did not pre soak the beans, then yes they will hold their shape and will be great for salads, etc. But they should not be hard, especially when cooking for 50 min, and a 30 min NPR

Healthy Cooking With Shayda I did not presoak as I wanted them for salads not hummus. No problem though.... I am just cooking them longer.😊👍

I have never eaten garbanzo beans, or cook in instant pot, can I eat them like pinto beans with the liquid I cook them, it will not harm me. Like garbanzo soup. 😁😕🤔😦. ❤️🎥👍👍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹. I am so excited to eat some or cook them.

I personally don't like the canned beans, and if I do use canned beans, I will rinse them really well. But If i make it myself, then I don't mind the liquid and its safe.
