Your host is so kind and accommodating. Ipoh White coffee is very good and popular among the locals. But your Malaysian breakfast is missing some things - nasi lemak, roti canai, thosai (these are breakfast items that Malaysians eat). But since you are in Ipoh and having breakfast in a Chinese stall, your breakfast is more of a Malaysian Chinese breakfast.

So, regarding the whote coffee, your host didn't tell you the whole story. Ipoh is famous for "white coffee". It has become a Branding - Ipoh White Coffee. It is basically coffee with milk. HOWEVER Ipoh white coffee is brewed with ground coffee, AND the the coffee beans were roasted with either butter or margarine, which gives it a creamy flavor when brewed. Then you add evaporated milk and condense milk, to give you the extra creamy, and sweet flavor. So, the white part is NOT because of adding milk, THAT just makes it coffee with milk (like a latte) but the flavor complex of extra richness, creamy flavor, EVEN IF you don't add the milk part. Typically, ground coffee used in most coffee shops in Malaysia (the non Star Bucks kind, but the normal coffee shops) uses the the ground coffee in which the beans are roasted with margarine or butter. So, technically, even if you went to a Indian restaurant in M'sia and ordered a Kopi with milk, it's the same thing. BUT somehow, Ipoh's White Coffee IF done the correct way, is tastier than normal coffee shop's milk coffee.

@daisylove20472 жыл бұрын
Hey Davud, I having been an Air stewardess for over a decade I would have probably been to Malaysia over a 1000 times. I am certain that the food u ate was not entirely Traditional Malaysian Breakfast, if it was then 75% of the Malaysian population would not be able to eat it as Chinese food is mostly pork based. The food u ate was basically Chinese food often eaten by Chinese and some non muslim Chinese/Indians/Eurasians. Although your guide was excited to show case the local cusine unfortunately he was not honestly accurate referring to the dishes as Malaysian breakfast. To my knowledge authentic Malaysian breakfast would be Nasi Lemak, Kueh Kueh, Epok Epok, Mee Rubus, Mee Siam, Mee soto, Lontong, Roti Canai, Thosai, Apom, Putu Mayam, Bee Hoon Campur n perhaps Roti n half boiled eggs. Just my sharing to the best of my knowledge. I really miss Authentic Malaysian cusine. If I'm wrong perhaps any Malaysians out there can shed some light? Really appreciate!
@calvyncraven11412 жыл бұрын
Erm. What you said isn't entirely correct. As most the food you mentioned are Malay, indian and some fusion (malay mix chinese) food. Secondly, Chinese and Indians area Malaysian too. Let me help you clarify the difference between the terms. Malaysian : It represents our nationality. Thus all races including malay, chinese, indian and the other 27 ethnic minorities. (Siam, Sikhs, portugese, orang asli, dayaks, iban, kadazan, etc) are called malaysians too Malayan: All citizens from peninsula malaysia/ west Malaysia Malay: the dominant race (in reality its a mix of many minorities ethnicities including bugis, malay, jawanese, etc) FYI, 40% of the malay at independence/1957) where first generation Malaysian hailing from indonesia) today the number is much higher as the government give out PR and citizenships easily to indonesians, many more instantly becomes malay from the second generation onwards.
@calvyncraven11412 жыл бұрын
Nasi lemak :malay Kueh Kueh: peranakan (chinese + malay) Epok-epok: malay Mee Rebus: Malay Mee Siam: Siamese/Thai Lontong: malay Roti Canai: indian Thosai: indian Apom: indian Putu Mayam: indian Bee hoon campor: malay chinese fusion (if this dish exist. I have heard of nasi campur but never beehoon campur). And fyi, if you look closer at the dishes served at nasi campur stalls, you will see many vegetable dishes resembles chinese way of cooking.
@daisylove20472 жыл бұрын
@@calvyncraven1141 Thank you for the sharing and amplifying my point, really appreciate. Thus if one claims to recommend malaysian breakfast, it perhaps could have been more representative of the nation's staple consumption n not cherry picking dishes from just one ethnic grp in this case Chinese and bracketing it as Malaysian. Coz my copines may mistake Malaysian food to be predominantly Chinese. S'il vous plaît do not misunderstand me, I love Chinese food too like Hokkien mee, Hor Fan , Chi Ro fan, Char Kway Tyow. I felt that injustice was done for missing out the other more popular cusines. Pardon me if I sound ignorant.
@calvyncraven11412 жыл бұрын
@@daisylove2047 he wasn't cherry picking but judging by his age, accent, appearance and demeanour, i just think he doesn't really understand Davud's question. Davud keep asked ng him "is this malaysian" and he replies yes. From his perspective, it is malaysian and many of the Chinese dishes seen in the restaurant did originate in Malaysia. You wont find them in Hk taiwan or china.
@margaretscleong2 жыл бұрын
Half the country of Malaysia is populated by People of Chinese origin. The Chinese have been in Malaysia since the 12-13 century helping build a progressive nation! What is wrong in calling a breakfast consisting of Chinese staples a traditional Malaysian breakfast??? R locals of Chinese origin not Malaysian too?? This is a travel vlog, not a political writeup. We do not need to be always so divisive & specific in stating Chinese or Malay, Muslim or Christian, native or Indian & so on. In Borneo, the original manuk pansoh (now adopted in Semananjung as Raya food) is also decribed as traditional Malaysian food..so is lemang. Would u say this is wrong? If so, u need to expand ur viewpoint!!
@lizashaha65812 жыл бұрын
Er, may i know if u r a muslim? your name may imply u r a muslim. if u r not muslim, then no prob for u to eat in any restaurant.. i may be wrong, but the restaurant that u go to seems non halal ... FYI, most Chinese restaurant in Malaysia are non halal..
