note to anyone wanting to make this themselves: make sure you chop them VERY FINELY!! like mince those potatoes, and when you cook them for the five minutes, make sure they’re sticking together. id recommend shaping the potatoes and throwing them into the freezer before cooking, as mine fell apart.
@zlonewolf Жыл бұрын
Store bought hash will also fall apart if not frozen. I dont fry store bought ones. Also i dont freeze them. Just handle with care. Buy a airfryer, toaster oven or bread toaster. Cook time is 20 to 30 min. If using toaster set at high setting and cook 3 times for max dryness/crunch. Resist temptation to check them unless theyre burn. Havent tried airfryer but toaster was much easier than toaster oven. No flipping required.

@@_.ineesha well, the fact stands that the nutritional value- which is what most people see as healthy- is pretty much the same. Also it’s not like McDonald’s is insanely unhygienic- in fact they use rigorous cleaning techniques, and must legally keep up to scratch with government hygiene standards, unlike a kitchen. Now unless you can provide me with some statistical evidence that these are simply better for you despite using identical ingredients, I’m going to pass off your points as superstition.

Hello, @매일맛나 delicious day, Thank you for the recipe. I tried making cheese hash brown as you suggested. I am a total noob, thus it didn't come out as I expected it to. I had a few problems: 1) Cutting potatoes into small pieces made it difficult to properly shape the hash brown in a rectangle. Would making use of mashed boiled potato work better? 2) Along with salt, I also added 2 tsp of red chili pepper and 2 tsp of oregano. It improved taste a lot. But, I still feel we can add a few more ingredients. Can you suggest what things we can add? 3) Rolling it into a rectangle was very frustrating. Many a times it was breaking, or sticking to the surface. Can you suggest any other alternative? In the end, I simply rolled the last few potatoes into balls. Overall, I liked the recipe as it is very easy to make. I am a total noob at this, thus I would really love to hear your advice on the above things. Thank you.
@thisisrosets3 жыл бұрын
I'm not delicious day, but i hope to help. 1) mashed boiled potato would work just fine, but it would end up being a croquet (?) (i remember seeing delicious day posted a video making it too). The unique texture of hash brown is that it has a little bite texture, that's why it is chopped. If you're fine with mashed boiled potato, well then that's okay too! But i suppose it won't exactly be like hash brown 2) i'm not an expert in spices but i love garlic and i find it good with almost anything. Maybe you can try adding a little minced garlic or powdered garlic? Please just use a little because garlic has quite a strong flavor 3) Rolling it is indeed a little bit tricky and difficult! I usually just scoop it with spoon (so they amount will uniform-ish) and jusy shape it manually with my hand. Anything works is okay too because it's just shaping and it won't ruin the texture or taste. I hope this help~! ☆

I tried making this, so hopefully I can give some insight :) 1) Someone else wrote that if the mixture isn't sticky enough, you can add water or milk to it. I didn't try that tho, but just shaped mine into balls, which totally worked! 2) Garlic worked well! I also added some dried basil (alongside oregano and salt) and a bit of black pepper :) my family also put soy sauce on it once it was done, and said it made it even better, but I didn't try it also, I would reduce the amount of cornstarch added! It's nice and crispy anyway, I put 35g and I definitely felt the taste, although my family said it was fine for them :)

I measured just like the recipe said. The hash brown fell apart. I read someone’s post about freezing so I froze them for 10 minutes before frying. The hash browns stuck to the bottom of the pan and fell apart again. Before I knew it, I had a pan of potatoes in lots of oil. I tried to brown them but found myself with just a lot of chopped up potatoes and very heavy with oil. I wish I had more luck. I wish I could make hash browns as beautiful as these in the video.

Thank you for this video. Would love to try this when family comes over. Qs: What is the best way to keep the crispness if prepared in advance? Can it be prepared the night before? Also, does adding corn starch directly to the potatoes - before dissolving - make it clot? Had a few unfortunate mishaps in the past with corn starch not properly dissolved. What a disaster. Thank you!
