I wonder if some of the votes disliking these scents are based on a bias against designer scents and also a bias against anything which is very popular. There is a segment in the perfume community which looks down on mass appealing perfumes.

I don't understand people actually liking this one. To me, it's sharp and metallic, cold and moleecular, and I don't think it's friendly to anyone's skin or clothing. I hate metallic and dollhead perfumes (frederick Malle seems to use a plastic note in many).

I hate Good girl for a long time cause someone who sat next to me in a party abused my nose by spraying too much of that scent. Then I got Good girl for my Birthday, I was shocked and not touching it for so many years. Last year I got Jimmy Choo I want choo, quite enjoy it then I realize it smells like something I already have, it's GG. Then I used GG for a day and surprisingly I don't hate it anymore, it's nice though.

Isn't it great? you like what you like and I like what I like, that way no one has to apologize. Perfume is something so personal that is like telling someone "your child is ugly", a complete no no. I for once am glad that we have the freedom of choice.

Thierry mugler seems to have some of the most creative perfumes. I too was like you with Alien. When I first got it (blind buy), I wasn't sure what to think of it, it was loud, and had a note that I wasn't digging. After the 3rd time wearing it, boom, instantly my favourite perfume ever. Lol As for good girl, the bottles have never been a reason I buy perfumes, the bottle is fine, but I do actually LOVE the original good girl fragrance. I do want to try Diors original poison from 1985, I have heard its the "original" good girl dna, but not a dupe.

It's so interesting how people can experience the same thing and have such different opinions. I agree with you that there's a sharpness to it. I think it's the lavender combining with the orange. But that's actually my favorite part of smelling it! It reminds me of clean, starched laundry, and I like to wear it to bed. But I can understand other people not liking it. It's divisive, for sure. Sometimes I think my nose is weird.

Erba Pura , hate or dislike is an understatement, this stuff is simply unbearable for me. I sampled Erba Pura one time in a department store and barely made it home, I wrapped my jacket around my arm in order to minimise unbearable scent. All I can smell is car exhaust as weird as this sounds. And i smell this stuff everywhere i go.

@aveotint, I hate Erba Pura with a passion. It's loaded with ambrofix. Most smell amber, we don't, just an unbearable musky stinkfest of which most people are noseblind too. I have to skip a lot of fragrances because of that. 😅

I understand that you had to move away from someone in a closed space wearing Sauvage. That is exactly what I do when someone is in my space wearing BR540. It is very strong and unpleasant for me. I know you love it but for some people including myself it’s unbearable.

Libre, Paradoxe and My Way give me a headaches and makes me nauseous. I took a look at the list and I agree with Devotion by Dolce and Gabana as a top scent. Very likeable.

I tested all the Sol de Janeiro in Dubai because I can’t find it where I live. It was so fleeting like seconds. I find the price too high even for a body mist especially with that performance. Of course I didn’t bought any.

I pretty much like everything on this list well enough to wear them although I am a bit "over" 540 and that scent profile in general which would include all of the various dupes. It teeters right there on the edge of being overwhelming to me. It's probably something to do with the fact that for awhile I smelled it everywhere and the people wearing it were often wearing 1 or 2 sprays (or 20!) too many. It kind of ruined it for me. I've never smelled Secretions Magnifique or Erba Fresca so I can't comment on those but they don't sound like something I would like.

Hate is such a strong and in my opinion completely unnecessary word, especialy in fragrance world. Every single creation can be described in another way. And there’s also a question of engagement, be willing to explain in few words or back up our own opinion towards specific, concrete creation. In this case Fragrantica made superficial category. Perfumes and our experience of the one is personal, we should and we must strive for better. To be better, which includes selfreflection and responsibility for outspoken words, as a human as also fragrance community. Happy New Year to everyone 🌟

I just looked over the list. I have despised Anais Anais since my teens...and last year during our Fragrance Christmas, my daughter picked up a bottle, so we all smelled it. It's JUST as vile as I remember...and she didn't like it either. I haven't smelled the Trump fragrances...I don't even know where you could find them. My Way...I can't hack uber-floral fragrances or indolic jasmine. If I've smelled it at the counter, that's why I probably don't have a bottle. Speaking of sicky-sweet fragrances, I noticed that both of the latest Kayali fragrances--Candy Rock Sugar and Boogie Marshmallow--are on the Hate List and I feel somewhat justified in my hate for them!!! Also on there was the Pistachio Gelato. I can't hack that one because of the vile cheap rot-gut rum in it. I noticed Britney Spears Fantasy on the list. I bought it because it was cheap. Again...super sicky-sweet. The cupcake note along with white chocolate made it an absolute NO for me. Not on the list but still a hate for me: Choc De Cardin. I ordered it thinking the Choc meant the patchouli in it was a chocolate patchouli. That was a LIE!!! The WORST dirty patchouli I have ever smelt!!! I have to scrub it off. I let it sit for an entire year thinking it needed to oxygenate. That did not help. VILE!!! Another in a similar vein but not as bad: Cabochard by Grès. I'm a good sport...I'll try almost any fragrance. Other Grès fragrances have been okay. I can't wear Cabochard because of the dirty patchouli. My imagination couldn't even think of what I could layer it with to salvage it. I'm not a patchouli hater...but it has to be the right kind of patchouli. I like the patchouli in Miss Dior 2017...it balances the blood orange and rose. I LOVE Miss Dior 2017 and had to put my detective hat on to track it down!!! Now...for the greater part of my life, I was not a fan of Chanel No 5. Something changed last year, and while it's not a love, it's a like...and I'm even considering buying a bottle, so it's off my hate list. Imagine that! I don't generally like lavender in fragrances. I thought I heard you mention one, but didn't see it as I scrolled the list. Now...I do know what notes I like/love in fragrances. If it has spices and/or incense, I will love it. If it has both, I will LOVE it!!! I have lots of perfumes that fit that description!!! Blood orange almost certainly means I will love it. To a point, I like a good rose. I got a bottle of TizianaTerenzi Porpora...significant rose with a dose of patchouli. Very nice! It's a cruel trick by Mother Nature, but way too bad gardenia scent can't be captured in fragrances. We had 3 gardenia bushes outside the front of our house growing up. It was absolutely heady sitting out front smelling the gardenias!

For me, BR540 is another case of social media working overtime & overhyping. BR540 isn’t easily accessible where I live without going to Selfridges/Harrods in London or ordering a ridiculously expensive sample. So I did go to Selfridges on a theatre day trip back in November 2024. I smelled BR450 & it was like tumble weeds rolling across the ground for me. V underwhelming & nothing like Ariana Grande Cloud IMHO (I’ve owned Cloud as well). As soon as I smelled BR540, I knew I couldn’t get behind it and the hype that’s been pushed behind this fragrance. I just don’t get the hype of it.

While I probably agree with about 60% of that hate list, there are some that shock me and I think some people just vote that way because of the shock factor such as Baccarat 540 how could anyone hate that? There are some though like my way, and Beija floor, 68 and Angel that I do truly hate but you’re never going to get everyone to agree one way or the other it’s all about personal taste

I have a hard time with Zara red temptation still. It’s very medicinal or it’s the moss. The best dupe is cloud or Ana Abyideh ( spelling ha)! It’s so much sweeter and no bitter!! They make too much now! They took a good thing and made it horrible by releasing too many perfumes!!!😅 I love Chanel always have and MEN love the fresh aldehydes it smells like you and clean! Same with Leau ahh

I agree with some other commentors that most people are tired of or over these fragrances rather than actually hating them. I am too quite frankly. When a fragrance becomes a "hit" they all scramble to make one with the same dna rather than create something unique, it's just really tiring and redundant. Really though my own "hate" list is rather small. I reserve it for fragrances I really do hate or find repulsive rather than those I'm just tired of. Like Divine Divine and Caron Fleurs de Rocaille both smelled like cat pee on me, both were very unpleasant experiences and impossible to scrub off, woof!!! I do also hate MFK BR 540. I don't know if it's all the ambroxan or amberwood or saffron but there is an aromachemical in this fragrance that turns and smells like a disaster on my skin. I get none of the good stuff that others get. This fragrance has ruined modern perfumes for me because it seems like every new release has a bit of BR 540 in it and they all turn on me. I also hate Delina for the same reason, some strange aromachemical reaction, Alien (I was so mad it was reformed and the amberwood changed the fragrance for me and I could no longer wear it), Guidance too, also Paradoxe, Erba Pura, Another 13 as well as Santal 33 that actually does smell like pickle juice to me. I dislike, but don't hate, Black Opium because the floral sometimes comes off as indolic on my skin I don't know why, it's so inconsistent. Not a huge fan of Burberry Her or Goddess but I love the Lattafa dupe Angham which I think is better than Goddess. I also love Libre, it works wonderfully on my skin where Goddess goes flat. Secretions Magnifique was not a dislike for me, it smelled to me like a meh marine floral, maybe a little metallic too. Not something I'd wear but not a hate. The others on this list that I really like are Good Girl which to me has the most lovely caramel dry down, LVeB for it's yummy praline accord, Khamrah because I adore spicy gourmands, My Way for the bubblegum tuberose, Bitter Peach and Vanilla Sex (I even love their dupes). I think people got mad at Vanilla Sex because it wasn't what they expected. It's lovely but it's not a unique fragrance and the performance has issues for the price. People are kind of over spending that kind of money on fragrances that are a bit lack-luster and don't perform well. I loved Vanilla Sex though, but I also love vanilla almondy fragrances, I also didn't buy a bottle of it I got the dupe instead which performs better. I still love Black Orchid and Angel, especially Angel Liqueur........ I could go on but it's long enough and that hate list over there is pretty extensive. 😄 Oh just an add, I was surprised to see all the Kayali's on the hate list, I wonder if it's because of the poor performance of these fragrances rather than the scents.

When it comes to designer/Sephora fragrances, at this point, I ONLY enjoy The Maker scents and Kayali. Literally all other brands are a no for me! They are all very alike to each other and overdone like you said, everyone wearing the same 10 scents. Annoying! Many of them overrated. I have made so many trips to Sephora to keep giving the popular ones multiple trys tests sniffs. But they keep leaving me confused! Why are these popular?!?!???

Unfortunately in the niche realm, I honestly dont understand Bacarat Rouge 540, I don’t understand it all! I have to say though recently I followed someone at Home Sense here in Canada to ask her what perfume she was wearing because she smelled really good. And she told me it was Bacarat Rouge 540, to my utter surprise! I guess it smells better on others than on me.

My most hated fragrance of the year for me is French Leather by Memo... I liked Tamarindo but French Leather smelled like spit and grass... it literally made me gag. I think it's the Vetiver in it???

I hated secretions magnifiques. The longer I smelled it the worse it got. It was very much a blind buy to try something I heard could be polarizing and had notes I hadn't tried. Some of the scents on the list are rights of passage.

I believe a lot of people convience themselves they dont like a scent when it becomes extremely popular. Personally, i dont like BR540 for me. However, my all time favorite scent is Cloud. It is the cedar and fir note in BR540 that i can not tolerate. If it did not have that in it, i probably would like it.

It’s interesting how a fragrance can be so beloved one year and abhorred the next. That said, I’ve always not liked LVEB and Angel. Libre OG is also not my cup of tea. Delina, I’m forever trying to understand (that sharp rose note kills my nose every time). I disagree with #1. It’s not my favourite scent, but it did so much for the fragrance world, and it did intrigue me enough to start my fragrance journey. At the end of the day, don’t follow trends. Just stick to what you’re comfortable and enjoy yourself wearing.

Santal 33 is the ONLY scent on this list that, to my hypernosmic nose, smells bad on paper, in the bottle, on my skin and on over a dozen people's skins I have smelled it on... Ladies, DO NOT buy this perfume, it is potent, pungent and extremely masculine, there is nothing creamy at all about this one, it smells sharp and vile. My humble opinion. Also, I love BR540 Extrait, it's my ride or die, gets me compliments everywhere, and I will always have a bottle :) CORRECTION: Portrait of a (old) Lady is just as repulsive, smells like a musty, incency old church...

My least favorite perfumes are La Vie Est Belle, Good Girl, Chanel No5 (and most of it's flankers) and Aventus for Her. I've smelled the original Chanel No.5- it smells like concentrated animal urine and compost soil to me. Same with it's flankers. LVEB & Good Girl are way too heavy for me. Aventus was the worst, and I couldn't get it off 😂
