Then idiots tanked it by turning it into a cultural abomination that was violent and misogynistic. Yeah, "give us more of that"? It's a nice, light, fun little song, which is why it was a success. Deep? No. Pop songs rarely are, especially if successful. There are exceptions, and yeah, this one wasn't. It was also significant, in that it was part of the endless process of clearing out the deadwood, like Girl Groups in the early 60s, Disco in the late 70s, and Hip Hop in the 80s-90s -- each of them clearing out the musical deadwood that had built up, for the "next major sound", e.g., The British Invasion, New Wave, and Grunge, respectively. We need a new such, but, radio having lost its power, that cycle is broken.

Never knew Flea actually played the bass on this song. Knew he was in the clip though - as skaters in the eighties we were both into hiphop and early albums of the Peppers. One of my close friends made a copy of Flea's pants and actually went to school in it :) Man, what a great era this was!
