Guess you were responsible for building and then actually maintaining those ICBM launch vehicles in the first place. At least before 2014, it was the good old Ukrainians! They had the personnel, they had the equipment, they had expertise. Without outside support and intervention, we can only guess at how degraded the capabilities of the Russian ICBM fleet is at this point. That's not even mentioning the replacement of the tritium and other degrading nuclear isotopes.

I have been saying for almost a year now that the few rockets that actually will work to transport the warheads will be nothing more than dirty bombs due to the level of theft there… the RAM that makes the chain reaction possible constantly decays, so the warheads need to be periodically dismantled and then the RAM melted and re-purified. The nature of the material that makes it possible for a nuclear chain reaction to happen, is only capable of doing that because it is unstable and decaying constantly.. if the RAM has decayed too much, the chain reaction will not happen so all the weapons do in that case is just make nuclear contamination. It becomes only good for area denial… like virtually permanent in comparison to our lifespans.

Maintaining nuclear warheads is a complex ongoing process They aren't like a lot of other ordnance, which can (theoretically) be parked on a shelf for a few weeks / months and still be OK. Likewise, the missiles that carry them to their intended target. The strategic missile forces are supposed to be an elite part of the Russian military, but we've already seen how that goes. I don't doubt that Putin still has working warheads and functional missiles. How many of these are actually together is an interesting question. If, Ghod forbid, he should do something REALLY stupid, the question becomes, how many of his missiles will work as intended?

I was a US missle boat cold war sailor who remembers all required to launch and the chain to do it. The USSR we knew had similar proceedures and we all drilled constantly. This causes Ukraine to use more expensive counter measures and a higher percentage of drones get through. It appears that Ukraine has found a way to determine decoys from the Shahed. While they're hit/ miss ratio has declined from 80% to 90% to about 50%, many of the drones that get through aren't hitting many targets.
