I just bought this laptop and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I was a bit worried, but luckily I use an external monitor 90% with a mouse and keyboard setup 90% of the time and I rarely use my laptop outside or in bright rooms, so the biggest issues are solved for me. Thanks for the review, I bought one and added another ssd and installed ubuntu on it. It is the best laptop I owned. I can use linux for all my programming and work and it's crazy fast, and use windows for gaming. The rtx 3060 graphics card does a great job.

I got a g15 today and although I like it and it is generally quiet, there are moments when it is making a loud sound like a wave, as if something inside the laptop is overheating. And this is happening while i am just browsing on the internet, not gaming. Do you think this is related to what you mention at around 08:50? Thanks in advance.

I noticed no reply and I know how this can cause some anxiety, so this is my non-expert advice. With an NVME SSD, the whooshing sound is most likely the fans coming on and off. I would check your temperatures when it happens, that would be an indicator of whether or not there is some serious issue, such as a poorly mounted CPU. As always, it's important to make sure your vents have clearance, so they can blow the hot air away from the laptop. If your temps are high, or the sound persists, Dell's warranties are among the best. I would call them and follow up.

@@noobnoob6900 Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I do believe it's the sound of the fans, and also it's quite hot where I live. The temperatures are generally quite normal, although I don't remember exact numbers right now for everything. I intend to purchase a metallic laptop stand with fans to help the machine function properly through the summer. And yes, if I notice this behavior at abnormal levels I will contact Dell support.

Awesome review, thanks. I just ordered one for GIS purposes and I think this will be more than sufficient. I have an aging Mac for design purposes, so I wasn't sure why you said this wouldn't be great for that. Because of the aesthetics? Well, I this will tie me over while I get the Mac some TLC to extend its life a little longer.

Dell. The G15 doesnt throttle when near or at max temp. The legion cpu throttles. Both are great laptops. Dell also have cheaper pricing compared to Legion.

Buy crucial 1tr ssd, pcl4. But it does not work with the speed of a pcl4, I put it in the two slots and the speed is a pcl3, I have the dell g155511.

Why would this not be good for "creative professionals" within comparable price points? It's a graphics rich machine with great CPU power/memory, graphics card/storage to price ratio. You said yourself it does a good job at video editing. Not making sense here.

@@big-hot-men I'm on one of these laptops right now. Its standard screen is just fine. The main advantage of the upgraded screen is higher frequency. Something even a lot of gamers can't perceive or are bothered by.

A good review but you left somethings i just get mine the 27 nov, the first thing when you buy a laptop its think the future, and this is not as expected and described in Dell, here i go: not a gaming laptop perse, it no has XMP profiles to get the faster ram with low latency (you are stuck in L22), i think and i check de manual it says: "update the BIOS if you install a PCI 4 SDD" and i say great!!!!! then i realize its just PCI 3 chipset, in a intel 11gen in ends 21??? wtf ....so it have no great updates for the future, its a great laptop for today, but whit this updates not posible mmmm i will wait save for 300usd more and buy something better ASUS RAZER or LENOVO, the weight and aesthetics for my are good even the screen, BUT HEAT in Heroes of Storm in high settings it ups to 84°c (183°F) in the GPU thats not a new game

It’s fair feedback. Keeping in mind my reviews are not for the technically savy viewer it’s more effective to show surface temperatures as it gives the average consumer a tangible idea of how hot the machine will feel at high loads. Many review sites use surface temp as a indicator. CPU temp highlights performance impacts not physical impacts.

@@SoulOfTech if you are putting effort, atleast do it properly. You just had to use something like fpsmon and played some games and told the surface as well as cpu gpu temps (and maybe drawn a graph but that's too hard i guess). This is a gaming laptop and is supposed to be tested with performance, otherwise just go with something like mac or low power machines since they generate less heat.

@@abdistic1047 No it’s in not fixable. The performance and laptop it’s self will go down hill with time and heavy use. If you don’t have the right drivers your performance will be bad. If you have the right items and drivers however then yes you can play mid-1080p with just over 60 frames. The laptop does have problems but they are quite easy to fix if you know what your doing!

All Dell G15 with RTX3060 are using USB3.x at the side port. Lower spec with RTX3050 and 3050Ti use USB2.0. The good news is the side port board was built separated from the main board, enabled it to be upgraded.
