i have dell inspiron 1525, it has intel core 2 duo processor 2 GHz, 3 gb ram and 300 gb hard disk. it used to be 32 bit and came with a windows vista OS, recently I changed the OS to windows 10 and changed it to 64 bit but since than computer has slowed down considerably even when I removed most of the data on the hard disk. I am looking to upgrade my laptop. if I change the ram to 4 gb will that be enough or going for an ssd will be good for performance?? can we use 240 gb ssd in this computer? does its mother board support these kind of upgradation. with these upgradation will there be good enough performance boost? as the computer is a bit old. thank you

sorry for responding late just found this video. if you have 2 gigabytes of ram installed on your system, you can run windows 10 32bit. don’t get windows 10 64 bit because that is gonna use more ram than 2 gigabytes. only get 64bit if you have at least 4 gigabytes of ram. however, if you have a 32bit cpu... you cannot get 64bit. you can go check your system info on your operating system to see if you have a 64bit processor. if you have a 32 bit operating system and a 32 bit cpu you can only use 3.5 gb of ram no matter what. it is possible to have a 32 bit install of windows and have a 64 bit processor. TL;DR: if you have a 32 bit cpu and less than 4gb of ram get 32 bit. if you have 64bit cpu and 4+ gb of ram get 64bit.

@@Zeazy I’ve had it running Win 10 home (64bit ) on the stock 2gB RAM and while it’s texhanically workable, it’s slower than Molasses in Anchorage on a nippy day. I upped my RAM to 6gb (one 4gb stick and one 2gb stick) and it’s working excellently with 64 bit Win 10 pro. The Ram should be cheap, regardless of where you source it since it’s likely an outdated format or speed of Ram.

I would not waste your time using this for GFX design, it wont be man enough.

The most you can go to is 4Gb on memory I don't think the BIOS supports any more - the board will support practically any of the low-power 800MHz Core 2 duo CPUs (I use a T7300 which is 2GHz clock 4Mb cache 800MHz bus) - it'll never run graphics quickly, Linux is definitely faster than Windows though - the only good thing is that the chips are about £5) For a 15 year old PC it's pretty incredible that it works at all, even more so that it's still able to do ordinary "desktop" stuff - the fact it has an HDMI port and an ExpressCard|54 slot means you can get a USB3 adapter and get reasonable data speeds, but unfortunately won't boot from it

Hello, I followed your steps. But just after boot from USB, it asks for the windows product key! Obviously my Inspiron 1525 is nearly 15 yrs old and I don't remember the windows product key. What do I do? Before the upgrade the Inspiron was running Windows XP and the reinstallation USB has Windows 8.1 Could this be the culprit? Is there a way around? Thanks in advance.

Hey there, this video comes in handy, let's see if you can help me here, I tried installing windows 7 in my girlfriend's old Inspiron 1545 (pretty much the same as your model). Problem is that it won't find any booteable device. I was able to insert the SSD properly in the main bay (where the HDD used to be) What should I do?

Can you see the hard drive in the BIOS? I think you have to hit F2 as it boots to check?

@@WeRepair yep I can see it in the bios. Anyway, I was able to fix it, I just popped in the ssd in the main bay, re installed windows and I worked a miracle. Now it boots perfectly. Thanks, :)

Max supported ram on this model is 4GB. SSD is your only option for a speed upgrade.

I went for 80GB INTEL S3500 series SSD. Given that this laptop is just being used for a bit of web browsing that is more than man enough. But it still gives a really good performance boost.

I had the same problem and my solution was you need to make sure the SSD is properly aligning inside the connectors. Since old hard disk are bulkier and the new SSD drive size are thinner they just slide underneath the connectors. Take care.

I heard people suggested that leave the laptop front side up and slide the SSD in will align it more correctly.

same as cristiana kfdjslgjdkgm the way i managed to make it slide to the connector was removing the oddly-shaped middle bottom cover and very carefully and delicately raising the sliding ssd with a very thin screwdriver (the thinnest from that tiny set daiso sells)

I just slot my SSD in without the caddy - seems to fit better, I have a flap of duct tape hanging out so I can swap disks over (when laptop powered down!) so I can enjoy Windows/10 pro 64 bit, or Linux

I use mine with 250gb SSDs no problem, I have different ones for different "personalities" - Linux/ Windows etc.
