I think on some other inspirons it was a removable back cover lid. Weird idea by Dell I guess :-)

@@regazzz Ah yes that could be it. I remember some HP Pavilions had swappable lid covers. I actually had to work on a Pavilion DV6 from 2011 which seemed to have one, and I nearly broke it trying to pry it off haha.
