Great video! I'm looking to get H200 and flash it to IT mode to use in my Dell r710 for TrueNAS. Your explanation really helped me understand things better.

Does IT mode mean you can use software raid instead of hardware raid?

Did you ever create the video on how to flash this card to IT Mode ? I have a PERC H200A card and need to get it flashed to IT Mode so I can run TrueNas Scale on my Dell T110 II and I am not finding the info to change it over but if you have done this I would be very interested in seeing it. thanks Jim

Would this card be compatible with UnRAID? I have a dell PowerEdge t710 that I would like to use for this application and need to replace the current RAID controller and was thinking of buying one of these.

Good day! How about the ability to monitor SMART information in external software, such as Smartctl, CrystalDiskInfo and etc.?

I haven't tried it yet, so it's something that can be looked into in a future video. Thanks for the comment! :)

These cards are RAID controlers that mean they do the job of chipset and so it has more free resourses for other jobs. These controlers takes Lanes via PCI-e to CPU so the Lanes between CPU-Chipset remain free. In the market there are ready IT flashed controlers whitch can order one at the same cost.Some providers give the miniSAS to sata cables together with controler. Wait for your next video! Vasilis GR

Could i plug this into the pcie of my pc? I suppose there is firmware on dell poweredge servers that would be unobtainable on pc.. anyone got any experience with this?

What server are you putting it in? I just got a 12 bay r510 with perc H700 (mainly for the backplane). Bought H200 that I plan to put in it and flash it to run FreeNas on the r510. Looking forward to your future videos.

Thank you for your comment! I don't have a particular server in mind at the moment, but for testing purposes, I think I might install it in a 8-bay R710 which currently has a PERC 6/i installed. (For flashing I plan to use a non-server system for convenience.) Going for a 12-bay R510 sounds like a pretty good choice for a FreeNAS solution; a compact 2U chassis that's full of 3.5 inch hard drives! (With two internal 2.5 inch bays as well, I believe!)

@@coobird you said this card only supports 8 drives. Doesn't the 510 have 12 drives? How would that work?
@densonngumo70282 жыл бұрын
Were you able to flash the card and did it work on the 510?
@smccrode2 жыл бұрын
@@densonngumo7028 yes I followed some instructions online that provided the firmware to put it in IT mode. I’m using it in my 12 bay r510. Card is in a normal PCI slot. What I discovered recently is that you have to boot from a USB port. I used to use flash cards and use TrueNAS. I tried to migrate to a hard drive for the boot as flash drives are no longer recommended. I couldn’t boot trueNAS. So I got a USB to sata adapter and plugged in a hard drive. I boot off that and it still works. I don’t know if that’s what you’re asking but it’s a recent development I figured I should share haha.

@@smccrode Thanks for the heads up. Basically trying to achieve the same thing you were. I have a 12bay R510 host which came with PERC H700 and doesn't support passthrough. I'm looking to use it for TrueNAS so was researching which cards would allow me to do this and if it actually works

Hi Friend! This controller supports SSD Disks? Thanks!
@coobird6 жыл бұрын
According to the User's Guide for the PERC H200, this controller supports "Dell-qualified" hard drives and solid-state drives. ;)

Can i use it on a normal pc?

Sure, just as long as you have the PCIe slot and a supported OS, drivers are available from Dell.

...and you did not do the firmware flash video... right ??!

You never talk about the 2 other ports... The white one by SAS ports and black one opposite the Dell name logo. Soooo....

So, in layman's term, this card is like multiplier for hard drive? For adding more SCSI drives.
@coobird7 жыл бұрын
+KrisTek is here It's more like a hard drive controller, which used to be discrete cards before they were integrated into motherboards and chipsets. It just happens to be that SAS controllers (that I know of) have ports that allows multiple drives to be connected to a single port.
