Success! my cable finally arrived... connected to old school hardware serial port, com1, 38400, defaults for everything else, connected... command "_ver" shows the output, version 1.01 from 2009, command "_devils" shows all the commands. Then I typed "_shutup 20" and the fans slowed down so much, I could no longer hear them from across the room AT ALL. I put my hand over the vents and its still moving plenty of air. here's the only issue.... once you reboot the shelf, it will lose this config (it doesn't save it) so you'll have to issue the command again. Some people have build a script to automate this. I have not gotten that far yet. That's my next project.

please note there's 2 different commands... "_devils" and "devils" the "set_speed" command is in the "devils" list of commands

Consider it done. If you do intend to update the firmware, try and not brick your Dell PowerVault. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGrHoYSZjN2rjNU

Has anyone tried to convert the Compellent SC2 to the MD12. Not sure if the firmware is different but it is just a sticker over top of MD12.

i just got one of these MD1200, how exactly do you know if its set up as one span or two? I can see all 12 drives on my HBA card using one single SAS cable.
@administrator47286 ай бұрын
So you'd use 2 spans if you had two controllers inside your MD1200, that way one controller would handle 6 drivers and another for the rest of the drives. A single span has fail over where both controllers can handle the 12 drives. Use cases: You had two computers connecting to each of the controllers to access 6 drives each. Or two RAID cards in a single computer to access 6 drives each. General recommendation, use single span for any other use case. In your instance you'd be in single span mode.

that seems like what I was thinking too. How do i konw if the system is sets up for single span? I am waiting for my LSI-9200-8e card. Also... I have been reading up that the front LED lights for drive status wont work unless I use a Dell HBA. what card are you using and do you have your drive status LED lights on? I understand that the drive activity will still work, either way, with Dell branded card or not. @@administrator4728

I just ordered the password reset cable, can you post the link in desc for the commands and which command you used to reduce the fan speed? or did you use the windows app via Perc H8xx e Card? @@administrator4728
