Absolutely shocking how good your ICC profile is. I've essentially duplicated the exact look, colors and brightness of my Macbook Pro 2021. Was on the verge of returning this monitor as I do web dev and colors need to be highly accurate.

I jumped from GN850 to this monitor. After the calibration it is amazing and 2 steps ahead compare with LG. Average delta E is less than 0.5 and max is 0.8; everything at 165Hz....I couldn't be happier

@@BryanVGK23 Hey, for the price it's one of the best, and since Xbox allows different resolutions and refresh rates, you can take advantange of the 1440p resolution. Unless you need serious color accuracy for your work, this IPS panel would do great for any office work and PC gaming as well.

Much appreciated for the thorough review. I got this monitor last week (mainly for gaming) and do light photo work as a hobby. As you've mentioned, the black levels are a tad bit lacking, but don't seem to be too big a deterrent unless placed side by side. Keep it up!

27GN850 LG vs this Dell monitor, which one is most suitable for both video editng, colors and gaming? I think the response time difference is really minimal between them right? I also care more about image/color quality than overall gaming response.

Dell is much better in every aspect compared to lg except backlight bleed reoccurrences on the screen. It's the same price with better specs but just a little bit more better, both have the same monitor technology panel, except dell has better contrast ratio, better response times, better grey to grey, input lag etc.. according to rtings. It's basically an small improved lg 27dn850 at the same price

I bought this Dell and the LG 27GN850 which is very similar, but didn't keep either because I couldn't stand the very intrusive IPS glow, the noticeable backlight bleed and their very poor black levels when used in a dimly-lit room. Black looks dark gray with these IPS panels if your ambient environment is not very bright and I can't stand that, it ruins the immersion when watching movies or playing dark games like Batman Arkham series. I've bought the Samsung G7 now which is a very fast VA panel with excellent response time, proper inky blacks and great colour fidelity and I'm much happier with it. The picture is almost perfect, but I wish they had made a flat(ter) version because I'm not really fond of the 1000R curved design, it's a very pronounced curve which is just unnecessary for a 27" 16:9 aspect panel, IMO. It seems we won't have a perfect design that's good at everything until OLED comes in monitor sizes (LG's 48" TV is great, but it's still way too large to be used as a PC monitor on a desk)

@@little_fluffy_clouds but you totally missed the op's question - for content creation these two IPS monitors are way superior to your only gaming focused monitor. its comparing apples to oranges. and its really funny you think you can see image quality from low bitrate youtube videos. i mean its not bad for a VA panel, but if the main focus is conten creation skip the Samsung VA panels and go IPS. for op's question - there is not much difference between the dell and the lg - i would go with pricing in your area. at the same pricetag i would choose the Dell

9:10 wouldn't you need to measure the response times to determine whether there is no effect when changing modes? I know HUB screwed up by not testing with freesync disabled but with their testing with it enabled it showed a decrease from 5.3 to 3.9ms, that would mean that the overdrive modes are doing something it's just more conservative, if anything I would think that not including monitor settings for modes with unusable overshoot is a good thing.

Bought it recently. Post calibration this display is just fantastic. The bleed is there, sure, but it' a minor issue for me. For a ~ 450 euro it's a steal.

Hardware Unboxed: "Small update to this one, as it turns out if you use the Extreme overdrive mode with adaptive sync (FreeSync, G-Sync) disabled, you will get WAY WORSE results. We always test with adaptive sync enabled and it looks like when you enable this feature, it will switch to using a more modest set of overdrive settings. That might be important for you if you plan on using this monitor without adaptive sync (use the Super Fast or Fast mode) --- Based on my testing with an Nvidia GPU it needs both the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro setting enabled, AND G-Sync to be enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel. However, it also looks like if you override the G-Sync setting on an individual game basis (while keeping the global setting enabled) that it will retain the 'better' overdrive settings" My question is: do you think using a Radeon GPU would bypass the issue with the overdrive modes, as it seems to be G-Sync related?

I tested this with an Nvidia graphics card as well. Though I think this behaviour isn't specific to Nvidia as Gsync w/o module and Fresync are basically using the same protocols, at least to my understanding.

Thanks! That may be the case. Though I don't think that's part of the FreeSync specification, so this would rather be Dell's own implementation. I wish they went for their Super Fast overdrive for adaptive sync...

@@techlessYT: Hardware Unboxed had slightly response times differences during freesync on, where overdrive Super Fast was best compromise and Extreme got more and more overshoot with lowerling refresh rate. But is was still better than with Freesync disabled. But this monitor is with overdrive "off" a.k.a. Fast better than XB271HUB with has slightly smearing and noticable overshoot with medium overdrive and with overdrive off is this panel too slow with increased smearing. Fastest overdrive is extreme increased overshoot cancer of death. G-Sync activated there. But this old 2015 era AUO panel have contrast at ~1050 ans this LG panel have at most testers 850-900 contrast ratio.

I just upgraded to the S2721DGF from a 24" TN, and I'm not sure what to think. It turns out that my cheap 1080p Acer had pretty decent black levels compared to a Nano IPS panel. I'm also seeing unevenness with my example, with it being darker in the bottom right corner. I'm curious what your Brightness and Contrast settings were when you calibrated. The ICC profile looks so much better, so thank you for sharing that!

I purchased the monitor based on your review since it was on a flash-sale. Long story short, the one that arrived was the S2721DGFA (emphasis on A, manufacture date nov 2020) like 3 months ago and some days ago I noticed it developed a stuck pixel (green) today Dell sent me what looked like a refurbished S2721DGF (no A, as in, not the Eu version, I assume. Manufacture date Agu 2020 but with a sticker REV01) as a replacement. Initially, the A version had a very strong yellow tint to it, I had to adjust. The REV01 looks almost perfect out of the box color wise, I don't think I even need to take it out of standard mode and go into RGB (custom) but it has backlight bleeding and the black is not exactly uniform, the bottom right corner being the most noticeable. It's quite weird that the A, which was manufactured AFTER the REVO1 was suffering from a yellow tint.. but I digress.. Any advice of what I should do, should I bother asking for another RMA or perhaps attempt to demand the RVO2? I heard from some people on reddit that said revisions has good uniformity. As for the freesync issue, do you think it's worth going to a monitor that uses faster overdrives properly just for that reason alone? (I Mostly play MMORPG's)I am really sorry, this is a bit too much but I would really appreciate it if you could answer. Thanks!

sbout the contrast and black levels.. is there a nano ips monitor with much better levels in the same price range? if not, i dont see a big downside, if the only way to counter both problems at the same time, is to pay up and get higher tier panels. in many regards, i see monitors in the same way as tires.. no matter what, you cant get a 10/10 in everything, having one good thing, often means, some other part suffers for that and those monitors, that can get 10,9,9,8 without having a 7 in one regard, are expensive and out for most people

Just a note: do not use Spyder hardware to check black lebels, they aren't good at measuring contrast at all. That's why you got a result of barely 600:1 contrast ratio when in reality it is around 850-900:1.

Great to see you still hanging around here Hanon! The Spyder 5 surely isn't the best device. But take a look at my Asus VG249Q review for instance: I measured 1068:1 with the same Spyder. So the Spyder would easily be capable to measure something around 850-900:1 if my copy of the Dell would reach such contrast ratios. I often measure lower contrast ratios than others as I stick to a brightness of 140nits and do a pre calibration to roughly D65 first - I believe that improves comparability between different monitors. Of course many monitors will measure higher contrast ratios at max brightness and out-of-the-box white points that may be totally off. Anyways I'm thinking about upgrading my colorimeter :-)

Thanks man, after a long and tiresome search for a good monitor, I decided on this one and I love it. Got lucky in the panel lottery - no backlight bleed, minimal glow, and color was great out of the box. Actually surprised that the blacks are not even close to as bad as I was expecting. I still think my 15in 1080p laptop display looks a bit better but the dell was worth the 300 bucks.

It's my monitor, even if I'm not a pro but i can say that this is a good monitor👍 But there is two problems for me : -theres a little bit of motion blur - you can't have 1 ms response time because of reverse ghosting The good point are: - g-sync compatible -very good color for me ( I've set my saturation on 85 for everything ) -even of you can't use 1ms, the 2ms are perfect -the dark stabilizer ( very useful in game like cs:go or rainbow six siege ) -the mode for blue light ( very cool for when you work -the port, HDMI, displayport, usb and for the headphones -the support of the monitor, you can move freely your monitor from right to left, up and down and do rotation Personally, I don't find anyone who made a good explanation for the best settings so you have to search or set it yourself ( Sorry for bad English, I'm french )

Hmmm do you think the MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD is better for content creation/gaming than the dell? It also seems that not matter what wide gamut monitor you get these days it would be good to have a calibration device.

I'm a bit hesitant commenting on monitors that I haven't tested. But the MSI certainly looks pretty great based on HUB's testing. It may have the edge when it comes to content creation thanks to the higher contrast ratio. A colorimeter is pretty important when you're a bit more serious about content creation. Without that it's almost impossible to get accurate colors.

Outside of color managed applications (like photoshop etc.) the profile will only have an effect on gamma and greyscale. This will be very subtle.
