Dell XPS 13 9350 QHD+ Review - Best 13" Laptop on Earth?

I've been using this laptop for 3 weeks. now. I absolutely love it. I did change the wireless card to an intel card since so many people recommended it and because intel card was only 20$. I installed arch linux on it and everything worked fine. I have the i5 version but honestly I don't think most people need i7 on this thing. keep i5 and save some battery life. The hardest decision for me was deciding between the fhd and qhd version. I chose the qhd because the display is too beautiful to say no to plus i learned dell offers a portable battery as an accessory so i doubt battery will be an issue. I mostly use it writing code and am very happy with the battery life. Also to linux users, install a program called tlp. Just install it. you don't have to do anything other than make sure it starts when your system starts. It'll save a lot of battery life. You are welcome :)

Given that you swaped wifi card, you must have bought the 9350. How much battery life do you get in Arch ? With what brightness, cpu usage and DE ? Thanks :)

I have the 9343 version, it's pretty good even with 4GB of rams as long you maximise the resources in the laptop, it is good for all rounder tasks.

Resolution does not affect battery life so much. The GPU renders more pixels, but the using word or browsing internet will not drain it at all differently. Brightness is a different case. Resolution would mostly affect FPS in games, with lower HD and FHD would give you more FPS. Normal work would not be affected by battery drain. Brightness 50% + web, music, videos gives you e.g. 7hours, but 100% 5hours and gaming gives you 2-3hours at best. I had RBS, MacBook Air 13, Samsung 9 etc.

Good review! did you experience any of the bugs that other users experienced? i.e. trackpad jumpy, battery doesn't go to sleep mode, screen flicker, battery lasts for 3 hours due to BIOS bug

I have the XPS 13 FHD version and it's really nothing to sneeze at! Still a gorgeous display and I get up to 20 hours of battery life. I'd say it's worth it, as a student. :)

Really wish they had the 1366x768 resolution option. Was a bit skeptic before buying the FHD version as the assets on screen would be too small considering such a small screen. And I kind of stand corrected, as Windows 10 has a scaling option which makes things better, however some apps do not scale properly, including chrome. Have to use Edge as my default browser and I miss my extensions. Also, games, even the light ones would look better on lower resolution screen as they are basically unplayable on higher resolutions and need to be scaled down to play making them look pixelated.

Casual stuff. Browse internet, stream/download vids, etc. I don't play games on laptops typically and as much as I'd like to start I don't edit videos or anything like that. I was mostly interested in the form factor; seems more powerful than the macbook. Considering waiting for Macbook Pro but I'm firmly on team Android so not sure how that would work out.

For your kind of work that laptop will probably be amazing for you. It will zip through your tasks with ease. But I think it's a bit overkill. I would skip the 16gb RAM and get the 8gb one with 256gb SSD instead. Will suit you better and you'll save a couple hundred bucks. I don't believe it when you said you can type on the xps 13 as fast as you can do on the mechanical keyboard. I know it because I also have the XPS 13, and a good mechanical keyboards. And I use both keyboards a lot. And typically using the XPS keyboard will lower my typing speed.

Talking all that smack about the VAIO Z, I can't believe you actually reviewed the dell XPS 13 from the same year. The Z is better performing in games, and battery life. It's one thing to say the performance isn't good on the Z, it's another to say the price isn't justified. You're insane. Interestingly the unit you had with 520 graphics is actually the least powerful offering of the XPS 13 in that year. They had an Iris option similar to the VAIO Z, but Iris 540, not Iris 550 like the VAIO Z, or Iris Pro 5200 like the VAIO Z Canvas.
