Full review with benchmarks right here! hothardware.co...
Dell's new 15-inch convertible wields Intel's 8th generation Kaby Lake G processors with Radeon RX Vega graphics. More specifically, the XPS 15 2-in-1 offers buyers a choice between Intel's Core i5-8305G or Core i7-8705G processors. These are both quad-core chips with HyperThreading support, the former clocked at 2.8GHz to 3.8GHz with 6MB of L3 cache, and the latter running at 3.1GHz to 4.1GHz with 8MB of L3 cache. Straight to the point, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 (9575) is a muscular machine in every respect, and deceptively so given its thin and relatively lightweight construction.

Thank you for this great review! I'm aiming to buy the 2019 model of this laptop if it includes most of the following upgrades: 1. 9th Generation Cannon Lake hexa core Intel G CPU (10nm architecture) 2. 32GB to 64GB LPDDR4 / LPDDR4X SDRAM 3. Properly positioned 1080p webcam, ideally 5+ megapixels 4. Killer Wireless-AC 1550 [802.11 ac Wave 2 (1.73 Gbps)] 5. Bluetooth 5 6. Four to Six Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C 3.2) ports 7. Improved battery life (made possible by the more efficient 10nm CPU architecture & LP RAM) 8. 6 GB HBM2 VRAM 9. Black color option 10. 2 TB SSD option 11. 120Hz 4K display (unlikely)

I just can't stand how they're putting a MICRO SD card slot in, instead of a FULL SIZE SD card slot. Like come on man, seriously?
@Hothardware
@Hothardware 6 жыл бұрын
It's very common these days and microSD is becoming more universal since it fits into smartphones and can be easily adapted to full sized format for DSLRs that need it etc. I run all our DSLRs and shot this video on microSD in an adapter card in a Canon 80D camera.

It's a bit dumb indeed, but still better than nothing *cough* macbook *cough* . It's the card that phones and GoPros use, so at least it's something, even if full size SD would be better.

HotHardware Micro SD cards are easy to come by so it’s not the problem I first thought it was. I’m very interested in this fantastic machine 😍 and hope to get one next month. 😀 I’m tempted to go for the i9 version.

I have that battery. It charges when you are not using the laptop. While in use the laptop consumes too much power that it will drain the internal battery slowly. So that's why the battery banks are more suitable for the xps 13 and the like

I hate bringing rain to someone else parade, but my high expectation of this laptop is starting to crumble. I ordered it directly on Dell official website almost two weeks ago and yesterday it arrived (China to Ireland). Firstly, I was so nervous to buy it because it cost me almost 3 thousand euro for 16GB RAM, 500GB memory, with wireless keyboard&mouse + sleeve, (almost €500 EU tariff included), however, because of good reviews on before and after release date, I decided to buy it. BUT, a big BUT!, out of my excitement while unboxing, it ended up in my DISAPPOINTMENT. When I powered it ON, it showed me weird instructions!? Like blue screen and asking me to press "ALT-F"???? I was jaw-dropped, like my expectation was to go straight to Windows 10 OS then device registration process. I tried to follow the instruction it always ended up in shutting down. It do self-diagnostic test, telling me there is no issue!? BUT..(stopping myself to say bad words), this wasn't my expectation for a very expensive laptop! Eventually, after 3rd diagnostic test, it say the OS might be corrupted!!??? So decided to call the Dell customer support, after 30 minutes typical troubleshooting over the phone. Operator took my details and say he will send an Engineer to fix it?? So today, I am waiting for that engineer and makes me vent-out my frustration here. Makes my knees feels so weak. Sorry folks, but this is like a tragedy for me.

Is this laptop easy to open up and how many M.2 memory slots does it have? Also is the ram soldered in or not? And crazy hypothetical question, can you use the thunderbolt ports to connect an external GPU and (assuming AMD GPU) run cross fire graphics with the integrated GPU and how would that chips performance vary compared to a desktop PC with two similar spec'd GPU's running in crossfire?
@Hothardware
@Hothardware 6 жыл бұрын
I might do a quick partial teardown video, but RAM is soldered to the board and only one M.2 slot avail. And yes, it has Thunderbolt 3 ports so it should be able to run external graphics theoretically, though I haven't tried it.

Amazing content! BTW, what do you think about the Alienware 15 r3 with i7 7700hq 16gb ram 256gb ssd gtx 1070 1tb hdd 60hz ips gsync? I can get it for about 1500usd. I'll be using it for Premiere Pro 4k editing on the go and some games. Or should I get a laptop with a newer cpu and portable for 2300usd. I just think that the Alienware is a bargain for that price.

Hey I need some recommendations. I am a Mechanical Engineering student and need a laptop for 3D modelling in SolidWorks, Ansys and MatLab.What should I look for in a laptop(CPU, GPU)? What would be the best choices around US$1000??
@ArjunRavi
@ArjunRavi 6 жыл бұрын
I use my xps 13 with i5 and 8gb of ram for my modelling(as long as the number of nodes is not too high) and matlab work,it works quite well. But if you want to be on the safe side get one with 16gb of Ram and a 1050 like the xps 15. I believe if you can get it for a big above $1000 for the previous gen

Got this bad boy new for $945 out the door, it is the lowest version 8gb/i5/1080p/128. But it costs me $65 to toss a 512gb nvme SSD in it (sx8290) so about $1,000. I re-pasted with LM and temps dropped 15c, it maxes out at 82c under full stress load and mid 70's when gaming. Glad I bought the 1080p too, I'd rather have 3 hours extra battery life and I couldn't tell a difference between the 4k and 1080p panel short of looking like an idiot with my face 2 inches from the screen.

Undocking and docking to switch modes between using your keyboard or touch screen pen editing is is a pain in the ass because you have to close both programs to do so. What's the graphic acceleration performance for photoshop or capture one like on the XPS?

I had to go to bios to set No Fans option ON so when there's no load, the fans wont spin at all. Love the 4k screen, its really gorgeous and has awesome colors that are pretty accurate.
