I bought this when the model after this was being released, after 5 years it still serves me well. Only con is that undervolting was necessary in order to stop over heating but other than that its perfect.

I used to support these when they were new at a company. I picked one up on ebay about two weeks ago. Such a great machine.

That surprised me how much the performance was affected by being gunked up inside. Do you think as highly of the current models of XPS as compared to these older ones?

I like the new ones a lot, they are built similar to this so thumbs up for those as well.

How is Windows 11 performing on it ? I have the base model without a dedicated gpu and I'm still on windows 10.

Hello, my XPS 15 7590 that I got from a friend has some small “problems” and I would like to know if it can be fixed. Since I got it, I reset it from Windows settings. it runs on windows 11 First of all, I use my PC mainly for office work, but I occasionally play on it. First, I noticed that the battery life was nowhere near what was advertised. It lasts me an average of half a day doing internet research, watching videos and basic office tasks. I went to look in the bios and the bios tells me that the battery status is “excellent” I also noticed that it blew a lot, this doesn't worry me when I play on it for example but it tends to start blowing continuously as soon as I plug the charger into it. It also tends to use a lot of RAM even when all applications are closed. So I ordered 16gb in ddr4 at 2666mhz. Have you encountered these problems? If so, how did you resolve them?

Hello, This laptop has a high performance “H” CPU paired with a decent graphics card so battery performance will be greatly affected by this, even when we do basic stuff it will draw more power just because of that. Imagine that this is muscle car or a sports car, fuel consumption was not a priority same thing regards of fan noise. Half a day battery is actually pretty good on a 5 years old high performance laptop. We also have a high-capacity battery with a high output charger, fast charge will increase the temperature of the battery and depending on your windows -Dell power settings your CPU and GPU performance will be elevated at the same time when the charger gets connected. I would check the bios and the Dell and the Windows power management and make sure it`s set to balanced and not to high performace or ultra performance. Also, I would take the laptop apart just in this case and clean the fans and heatsink and apply some new silicon based thermal grease. The fan will run significantly less after this. You need to look at task manager/processes and click on memory to be able to see what is using the most ram. Even when the browser is closed, it`s still running in the background by default. Could be antivirus one drive, iTunes or technically anything. You should have least 16 GB of ram nowadays and that should be enough for basic stuff. Windows virtual ram should be chamged from auto to manual least 16000.
