AMEN! I cried when I heard Marvin made his transition. Not only this song, but every song they sang had words of encouragement, even for a relationship or for a world. Thank God You Tube is available, to post the songs we've forgotten in the morass of noise that's being released today. God Bless.

This song came out back in 1970 when I was a 9th grader @ Thomas Johnson Jr. High School in Lanham,MD. I still have my 45 & I can remember playing it over & over on my record player. I was so taken by the humanity of the lyrics. In those turbulent times of Vietnam(where I would later witness the "inhumanity of mankind), racial, & social unrest this song spoke volumes. I am thankful to have been a child of & survived those turbulent times. Just think if each of us would do what The Dells sing about here. In a short time our world would be a better place. I've tried to live by these words. There have been rough times, good & bad times; but, through it all we made it. Everyday I try & see if I can be a friend. R.I.P. Marvin Junior & Thanx to The Dells for leaving us with this song & these words of wisdom; now if only we would live by them. Sincerely Colonel S. A. Chase,USA(Ret.)

swt32567Love your comments.👏👏👏 I remember this song and it was just mesmerizing, the lyrics, orchestration and intense vocals, I kept replaying it and I'd always enjoyed The Dells but this moved me to tears. I grew up in Washington D.C. so hello neighbor. I can't remember what the A side of the 45 was. I think it was "Miss you" but I'm not sure. Could you help a fan out?

The early seventies was such a rich vein of creativity in the world of soul, but especially in Chicago- Gene Chandler, the Chilites, the Lost Generation etc and of course the Mighty Dells, whom despite the societal issues of the day, were still able to come up with masterpieces such as this.

This is what our world needs today. The neglect, abuse of the masses must cease people. Be about helping someone today, the small things matter in a person's life if we would individually, collectively, and corporately LOOK OUT FOR ONE OTHER> Despite what you think we all belong to the human race! Do something kind for someone today and everyday, if nothing but a kind, encouraging word-IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. And you don't have to go to church to learn this. Life and hard times teach this!!!

Please. please people I implore you to listen attentively to the lyrics of this thought provoking, inspirational son. The change that is occurring in this selfish, hurting world we live in nowadays, should cause those with a HEART, to reexamine, reevaluate, and reinvent their lives. People are hurting so, so bad that they are killing themselves, family, others, why? People have no hope because the selfishness, covetous, and thirst for more money and material things has become gods to many.PLEASE

Bobby Miller(The Dells great songwriter) was presented with a Son, on the morning that The Dells were recording their "Like It Is / Like It Was" Album. Miller contacted the late Charles Stepney, and said "I'm writing a new song for The Dells session tonight". Stepney, wrote the arrangement, The Dells rehearsed, and recorded this great song, which was a reflection of Bobby Millers graditude for being so blessed. Bobby Miller named his son 'DELL' .....now you know

I used to play this record a lot when I was a little boy (age 6) on my sister's record player. I used to play it over and over b/c I liked the way marvin would sing the phrase "see if I can have a friend" for some reason as a little kid that stuck in my mind. When I heard it again many years later as an adult I said I remember we had the record and I used to play it..

Thank you 58musicman for concurring with the TRUTH-as the Holy Bible avers, "THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!!!. May His revealed and written will be done in your life as you strive to "seek what is truth" and bibical truth again is not to be found in the contemporary, humanistic teaching, entertainment-based, ear-tickling churches of America that focus ( to gather the masses) to tell you lies about financial prosperity and material gain. (If) the Lord is your Shepherd read Ps.23 and believe!!
