How to remove side marker on W212 Mercedes Benz E350 2009-2011

Joe and Shane show you how to replace the side bumper lights on this W212 E350 Mercedes Benz. It must be done via the interior wheel well. You need to access clips behind the bumper.

Ok, so I just did this and after spending 20 minutes on the first one and figuring out the method, i was able to do the other one very quickly. I don't recommend trying to reinstall the housing and backing together by pushing it in from the outside as this video suggests. The proper way to Reinstall the part is to leave the black backing inside and hold with one hand while using your other hand to insert the housing from the outside. Get the hook clips on the housing to clip on to the correlating part on the backing and start there. Then, once that end is connected, sandwich together from both sides. While the two pieces wedged together you will need to push the corner on the outside towards the front of the car as far as it will go so that the small tabs on the back side are fitting behind the edge of hole in the bumper and the outside part remains on the outside. While pushing towards the front of the car, apply pressure to the outside and push in so that the housing is able to fit in the hole. Once all edges of the housing are fitting inside the whole apply pressure with your inside and outside hand to sandwich the housing and backing until it clips together. You should be pressing roughly where the hole for the bulb is.

I've been trying to do this and could not clip the last part to snap it on, bec of the tight space my hand is getting sore ..I hope u got pics ..I tried the same way you were doing but I don't know what I'm doing wrong ,push the black backing towards the front at the same time towards outside of fender? Then try to push the orange housing inwards (I already cracked this 56 dollar orig lens ..

Thanks I've had this error message on both right and left side not knowing how to fix this problem thought I was going to have to pay an arm and a leg to take it in but now that I know how easy and simple this is I'm so thankful to know that I can do it myself where can I get the LED light bulbs and clear lens markers left & right side

Now I know why both of my side markers have corner chipped/missing. previous owner must have changed lightbulbs and broke the lens, like what happened in the video . Thanks. Not sure if I can do this without making it worse...

What am I missing. I cant get the side marker back on. It's the section you explained right at the end. Do you put the black housing in with the sidemarker as one piece. If I do it that way, I can't get it through the hole.

If replacing just the bulb, turn wheel away, unclip wheel liner. Do the 3 clips, trust me. Turn bulb holder counterclockwise (viewed from behind) and remove. Do not remove the lens or unclip the bracket behind it, or you'll have double the trouble.

best way to avoid damage is removing the bumper. or even taking off tire and getting more room to access the housing

Stephanie W just did my car without breaking anything. Just don't yank the cover, push the top hook inside and slowly wredge the cover out.

The trick is to remove the bulb harness from the marker BEFORE starting to pull the marker.

This identical task was 10x easier on the previous (W209 CLK) model. Lens unclipped from the outside and you didn't even have to reach into the wheel well. Count on German mfrs to make something more complicated than necessary.

I was thinking the same thing. I've changed out mine on a W210 and a W220 in seconds with a screwdriver. Glad I saw this before I bought one, and jammed a screwdriver in it like a fool!!!!
