In this video I take apart my bench top Kobalt router table and attach it to my Delta tablesaw. From start to finish this project only takes about 25-30 minutes.

I stumbled across this video and had to laugh. I did the same thing with my Kobalt router about 2 yrs ago. The Bosc variant is a much cleaner fit, but the $130 price point of the Kobalt made it a no brainer, especially when you consider the fact that the Kobalt system comes with the built in depth adjustment.

Great instructional video. A side note if you don't have an extra Allen wrench or you don't want to cut yours down there are literally only three screws underneath the rail to take it off. That is the only difference between my install and yours I appreciate the video it made me go out and buy the router table.

I made this, but I have the Bosch router table with the MDF top and sides. It’s not wide enough to drop in there so I had to add some angle iron on the inside of the fence rail and the fence guide rail on the Delta. Took a bit more time and some tweaking, but it works! It’s an awesome addition.

I just did the same install on my Delta 36-725t2. I didn't like how it was only attached to the extension table. The end would lift and didn't feel solid. So I cut two 1x3's that span across the old bosses the legs attached to. I cut notches in them for the support bar. When you install it from the bottom and screw through the legs holes it locks the outside of the router down tight. It took about 10 minutes and is a lot more tightly secured this way. I may make a small video showing what I did, but it's pretty straight forward.

Looks like a good affordable option. I've had my 36-725t2 for just over 2 years and love it. I've used an old craftsman router table that honestly hasn't been horrible, but the router is 30 years old and the bearings are getting noisy. I may look at doing this instead of keeping the craftsman table and getting another router. It would free up some workbenches space.

I just bought the Delta 36-725T2 in part because of this video. Maybe you can list the saw and get some affiliate income ;). I’m still putting it together, but after that it will be the router table insert. You nailed the point about the Kobalt router, it hops a bit when lowering it, but otherwise it’s pretty good. I got a spiral bit from Rockler and have had good luck with making dado box joints.

This is awesome! I haven't bought the Delta saw yet, but have been close to pulling the trigger. I do have that exact same Kobalt router table and Kobalt router that I got from Lowe's. The router table has a spot to the side of the workbench, but is kind of in the way. I love this solution. One concern I would have would be that the weight of the router might cause the rails on the saw table to bend over time - but that's probably not a big deal and you can probably just put a cut 4x4 underneat the router just in case.

One thing that the Lowe's guy offered me was $100 off + a new blade if I signed up for their Pro program and card which I did. I like Lowe's a lot better than Home Depot. I may make a video and/or take some pics of the assembly that I'll be doing tomorrow morning. There's another video that I thought was great where a 36-325 owner measured the decibel level of this saw versus another one - and with the right blade it's much quieter, about 10 decibels quieter. Delta sells the fence separately for $200 so even at $679 this is a great deal.

Just a heads…I finally got around to putting the router onto the table saw and didn’t go together as easy as it seemed for others. I found out that the one piece rail system puts that crossmember out about an extra inch compared to the stock 2 piece. I had to remove the furthest out bolt and slightly rotate it down to get it all level. Cranked down the single bolt holding it in place and it’s not going anywhere. I’ll likely go back through and put a bolt through the router and rail and will take place of the one I had to take out. Still wouldn’t trade the one piece because the setup was sooo much easier.

Hey! Great video! I’m a Hoosier as well! I’m looking to buy a router table to add to my delta as well. I have another router with a plunge base already. If you were to start again fresh would you pick a different router and table or still do with the kobalt?

I have a Porter Cable or Delta router (not table, just freehand), I can't actually remember the brand because it's been a little bit since I've used it lol. Now you've got me wondering if Delta makes a table insert that fits this saw that would be an even more "turn-key" solution.

Neat idea! I think that I just watched the other video that you are referring to, just before I watched yours. I have the same router. How much of a pain is that going to be to change router bits? It’s actually easier to change now than it was before. The base is solid now and originally the left leg kind of hindered you from reaching around there to get to the locking mechanism. Now it’s all out of the way and you can change it without taking the router out.

I am getting ready to purchase the Kobalt routing table and follow this mounting guide onto my Delta Table Saw. What bolt size did you use to mount the router table to the 3 holes on the back ledge of the table? How is the vibration at the front of the router table? Would it be beneficial to put an additional bolt on each side towards the front for stability?
@hoosiercarpenter6149
@hoosiercarpenter6149 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not exactly sure the bolt size. It doesn’t need anything major because the table isn’t very heavy. I haven’t noticed any vibration at the front and you could always add additional bolts on the front but personally I don’t feel like they’re necessary because the cross bar is there and when I’m routing something I’m putting plenty of downward pressure. Maybe be the downward pressure helps to prevent vibration. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ok - just happened to recently purchase the same Delta saw and just saw (no pun intended) this video. Having just completed my first project (rebuilt daughter’s kitchen drawer) I thought hmmmmm wondering if Delta sold an accessory for the open area like a router table. I may just add this router table to the Delta saw like you have done. Just wondering - I see you rest the router table on the flipped cross bar bolts and I think it would be better to have one bolt on each side for the long term to keep it tight and if someone (not me of course) were to pull up on the attached router table without side bolts it seems like a problem - thought? Also have you considered designing a removable dust collection box for the router table?

One other question - well two, how do you like the Delta saw. Second, do you have the Kobalt router that comes with the table. I haven't used any other routers, but I haven't been blown away by the accuracy of this one and I've been considering upgrading to a Bosch. Thanks.

I really like the saw. I let it stretch it’s legs a bit when I built a workbench because I had to rip off both sides of 16-2x4x8 to get rid of the rounded edge. I know it’s soft pine but it was a lot of ripping and it was effortless. And yes it’s the router from the table. For what I’ve done to date I’ve been pleased with the router. The micro adjustment is what I’m not crazy about. Going down it works fine but to raise it it seems to hop around instead of being a nice smooth motion. So I’m always raising it past where I need it then slowly lower it to my desired height.
@billirey9459
@billirey9459 3 жыл бұрын
I would be concerned with your attachment to the saw wing. It looked like two holes didn’t even go through with edge margin material left. I would think it would be better to drill new holes in the wing using a 90 degree drill motor adapter to ensure complete hole penetrate.

I'm in the process of installing this router table on my 36-725 saw. The saw is about 3 years old, and the table/router combo is brand new. This video was a great help, but I found a few minor differences mounting on the 36-725 saw (not sure if the saw or the table is a little different from what's in the video). In any case, bringing the table rear surface up to be flush with the extension wings, the existing holes in the wings can't be used because the matching holes required in the aluminum table would be about halfway off the table's bottom edge. That means new holes are required in the saw's extension wings. Find 4 good places on the router table and drill those first, then mark and drill new holes in the saw wings. Also, on my saw, the spreader bar that was reversed is too about 1/4" too low to make the router table level (even when sitting on the bar's nuts). I'll need make a set of notched strips as mentioned above to raise the front of the table and secure it.

No issues with a rough table top. Mine seems to be plenty smooth. My complaint lies with the router lift mechanism. It wasn’t the best to begin with but it got me by but now it’s just completely shot. I have to unlock it press the button and manually raise it up while holding a depth gauge to make sure my height is right then lock it in place. It would be worth looking in to a different router table with roughly the same dimensions.

@hoosiercarpenter6149
@hoosiercarpenter6149 3 жыл бұрын
It just fits better on the other side of the saw. There was plenty of room already there. If I would have done it the other way it would be sticking out past the edge of the table also. Doing it this way it’s still within the original frame of the tablesaw.

Does this saw have a NEMA5-20 plug on it? Mine is coming Tuesday and if so I have to hire an electrician as that plug has one horizontal spade.

No I don’t have the exact model number. But I’m pretty certain it’s the only kobalt router table Lowe’s sells.

How did you remove the handles from the router to mount to the bottom of the router table? Thank you
@hoosiercarpenter6149
@hoosiercarpenter6149 3 жыл бұрын
There is a couple Allen wrenches that come with the router table. One of those fits the bolt on the handles. Not exactly sure what size it is.
@ccaden7539
@ccaden7539 3 жыл бұрын
@@hoosiercarpenter6149 Thank you for your quick answer regarding the handles. I love this setup, love the table saw, but cannot mount the router due to the handle running into the cross support bar. It didn't look like an allen wrench would remove the handles, I hope they didn't change their attachment to permanent.

Yes there is a long Allen wrench that comes with it. The up adjustment kind of catches and isn’t great so I’ll just undo the clamp and raise it all the way and slowly lower it with the Allen wrench from the top.

What is the benefit of adding the router table to the table saw rather than putting the Kobalt router table on a stand-alone mobile base?
@hoosiercarpenter6149
@hoosiercarpenter6149 2 жыл бұрын
For me it was convenience and space. The tablesaw is already taking up that space with or without the router. And also convenient because I hadn’t yet built a mobile router base to mount it on and once I would have done that it would have been one more thing taking up even more space. I was always tucking the tabletop router under the miter saw bench. Now it’s always ready.

I own both the saw and router table but both are in the box. Im confused as Delta says the depth of the saw is about 27". Kobal router table manual says width of table is 23 1/2. I haven't had a chance to measure. Can anyone tell me who is wrong? lol

They're pretty much vaporware/out of stock everywhere now. I've got the original 36-725, going on 5 years, and it has been fantastic. It was a huge upgrade from the portable, loud, small table contractor saw. For me, it's either the $600 Delta or the $2800 Sawstop. I don't see a good enough reason to get anything in between.

You need to mention the dimensions of your router table top, length and width so people can figure if it will work on their saws. Great video otherwise.

Great Video Question - why not flip the router table around p so large stock can be supported and slide across the table saw portion instead of hanging off the side? Is there something preventing this?
@hoosiercarpenter6149

It’s just the way it fits in there. Also I have an outfeed table on the back side of my tablesaw that I also utilize when using the router.
