I'm still not clear on how miles flown factor into earning status. You said we can earn miles on reward travel so I'm guessing we can earn miles on normal flights too. Miles towards what? It seems like dollars are the only metric. Are they converting the miles flown into MQDs + the dollar amount you spent booking the flight?

Delta Vacations spend gets you MQD’s for the next year’s status. I thought silver required 5K MQD’s not 6K as you said

I have skymiles and trying to use them & credit card Delta America Express ti pay the Remainder. They won't allow me to do that. They told me I need enough Skymiles in the full to use them. What is the option of Miles + Cash

Only a fool would chase DL status in 2024. Less Medallions sounds great for upgrade chances.....until you realize that DL is now selling 80%+ of first class seats. So imagine how dumb you'll feel sitting in the back after giving them $30,000 with an expectation that as a Diamond you'll get a reasonable amount of upgrades. You'll be number 1 on the upgrade list as the boarding door closes more often than you'll be sitting up front. JOKE WILL BE ON YOU!

It really depends on what your priorities are. For the ultra-frequent travelers, they probably have their loyalty determined by the hub the fly from or to most often. For others whose travels may not be as frequent or predictable, part of the choice has to do with the experience. Even if I can't get diamond status because I'm not flying 100K miles/year, I still want to have ground agents and flight attendants who can muster a smile and show some civility. For that, I'll choose Delta over American and United whenever possible.

people complaining about delta changing the parameters for elite status don't have to look far to see they had no choice. the lounges are overcrowded, too many people are qualifying for the top tier., and as result upgrades are far and few in between. if you have a delta reserve card and spend about $100k a year and travel internationally on business class a few times a year, it not really that hard to maintain diamond medallion. and if you can't do that, you really shouldn't be in the top tier of the airline.

The effects of multiple years of pandemic mqm rollovers will clear out this year. The problem was going to take care of itself. Furthermore, some minor tweaks so the lounge benefits would solve the problem (for example, cc holders only get lounge access 2 hours before flight instead of 3). The major overhaul is either overkill to solve the problem… or more likely jus plain and simple corporate greed.

As someone who only flies first class multiple times a year and D1, getting status is no issue. If you can spend, that’s literally the MQD model. Big spenders will be rewarded. Simple! Don’t like it, go somewhere else!

So I read you can directly buy miles but when I click on the FAQ, the page times out after a few seconds. So my question is can we still directly buy miles (for poor people who are bad at saving and want to do a trip)
