Did you consider bringing an instrumental album out in this genre, cos it is a pure delight to hear you play. The dimensions you hit through just a few simple notes are so profound. I'd love to hear, maybe a small concert on the channel, or some means to access your absolute mastery of the style in a way that gives an opportunity to hear more fully the full flavour of your expertise. :)

I can play all the notes with bends, pull offs and slide but I can’t seem to get clear crisp and loud tone. Probably because my finger nails aren’t long enough and I have to play with the skin on my fingers. I wish I could get this kind of tone. I’ve got a Martin 00-18 so I don’t think the guitar is lacking.

This is an old Harlin Brothers parlor guitar from the 1930s. Not sure of the model, there isn't a label or much info on it.

"Delta blues" means acoustic?
@BluesGuitarInstitute
@BluesGuitarInstitute 6 ай бұрын
most delta is acoustic, but acoustic blues isn't necessarily delta. you could play old ragtime blues, piedmont (east coast) blues or old texas blues on the acoustic like they did back in the days before electric guitars.
@schizodeltaman

Delta refers to the Mississippi Delta where some of the earliest blues originated, they played on any instrument that was to hand, some even nailed a piece of wire to the wall of the house put a tin or bottle under it to make it tight and played with a knife or glass slide, pipes and drums were played too, of course acoustic guitars were ideally used, but believe me playing in juke joints that were packed full of rowdy drinkers dancing, as soon as amplification was possible they were making use of it if they could. point is delta blues was people in the delta expressing themselves. In fact at its most basic its call and response singing, you didn't even need an instrument.

Im sorry, i'm probably going to get hated for saying this, but you can't learn blues like this, this is just going through the motions, dont get me wrong its a good starting point and this is a valuable video to get the technique maybe, to start you off on the journey....but unless life has totally kicked your butt, someone seriously breaks your heart, or you have suffered in some terrible way its just not going to happen, blues is baring your soul to the world to help ease your pain and the listeners pain, its actually having something to say, its a living breathing thing, its not a technique or a piece of sheet music, just my opinion
@JBMindset
@JBMindset 4 ай бұрын
Music is a living and breathing thing. I agree. It can mean many things for many people. People that desire to express themselves musically with an instrument have to first go through a process of learning to arrive at that goal. This is a guide to get there. No bluesman just picked up and instantly knew how to get there. Except Robert Johnson, but most people don't want to travel those crossroads. 😋

Totally agree mate, all any of us can do is "imitate" no matter how good you are, well never be a black geezer living in the Delta, even the famous ones, Stevie, Clapton even G. Clark, it's just bs?
@schizodeltaman
@schizodeltaman Ай бұрын
@@stephencouldwell9967 Hi Stephen, I'm not much of a Clapton fan except maybe the cream days, he's kind of a blues encyclopedia but he has had his fair share of pain and played with a lot of feeling in his prime, Stevie played with attack and aggression, in my opinion, beauty too, again he was very fluent in blues (omg that's an understatement) we all know that and the other "legends" similar thing, I just think this video is going through some sort of motions to achieve something that this guy seems to be completely ignorant to, maybe I'm ignorant too, I don't know his story. But all I can say is I've absorbed blues for over 20 years, I'm passionate about it, as a singer songwriter influenced by all facets of guitar music from Son house and Robert Johnson to the rolling stones, Hendrix, cream, led zep, grunge, metal, etc (all blues based to some degree) and on into the early 2000's where I gave up on listening to new music for a while as it no longer resonated with me. I've been through a lot of pain and trauma, still cant play blues like the delta masters, but I've found to truly play with feeling you have to find your own voice, develop a style in a way that is yours and yours only, you can use the pentatonics and blues scales, you can use the 1 4 5 chord progressions and variations there of and you can embelish it as well but in the end the music has to be created from within, it's a personal thing, I can't really put it into words it's not really something that's explainable in that way, that's the point music is the oldest form of communication. you'd have to listen to one of my songs to get what I mean. Again I'll probably be hated, and yes to anyone else reading, who the hell am I, yeah I'm a nobody, an unheard of musician, so who am I to judge or opinionate. But I know more about it than the guy teaching how to express emotion in this video (can any one see the absurdity) end of the day to truly express yourself you just need the confidence to be your self. so BS? this video definitely is, I hope a few people read it before it's inevitably removed. apologies for the length of the post and thanks for commenting in agreement. rant over lol.

Blues have a foundation and yes need to be taught how to play for most. There is a reason most blues riffs sound the same… There is a formula to the playing, but of course you will get more feelings from someone playing from real pain.
