I've seen in videos a player will pick up some high rarity item and inspect it. Is the inspection automatic or is there a button to inspect items? I know you can inspect weapons with I but not sure about items.

You will see the inspection only when you pick up a red item. It’s automatic and if you want to inspect again you have to drop it and pick it up.
