I have access in a basement below the floor level to install the rough in plumbing, so it makes a lot of sense to me to caulk & screw on the drain assembly, along with an adequate length of 2” straight pipe already glued to the installed drain assembly, THEN mount the shower base into the adhesive. This way, I don’t have to worry about trying to glue the straight down pipe leading to a P-trap at the floor level- the down tube is already glued to the installed drain assembly.

What is this adhesive for the floor??? I can't find anything like you have in the video except flooring tile adhesive.

How come it never shows you actually PLACING the shower pan? Which is arguably the most difficult part...

How you installed the shower drain?

I purchased this and will pick it up tomorrow from home depot I will install it next week I understand everything about this install except the mortar bed part I guess if the subfloor is level it’s not needed I’ve heard it can still be a good idea I’ve heard you need it thicker when it’s more uneven in certain areas. But I haven’t found out exactly how thick is should be, nor have I seen how many bags of mortar are needed. I’m guessing I just overbuy and return the mortar I don’t use, but if you could tell me before I have to buy it, that would be really cool and appreciated.

Hi David, Thank you for your question about a mortar bed. We recommend 1" of mortar mix that has been mixed to a thick consistancy. Low spots may require more than 1".

@@deltafaucet last question I promise. What do you recommend for the subfloor? Osb or plywood?
@deltafaucetАй бұрын
Thanks for the question! We recommend plywood or concrete slab for the subfloor. OSB and cement board are not recommended.

Great video, but one major issue. The base itself is warped! I have now purchased three of these, trying to get a good one. In every case, the black support structure is improperly glued to the white acrylic base, with gaps and bends. Floor is perfectly level, base itself is not. I am now trying to apply adhesive, then placing 5 five gallons buckets if water inside base to hold flat while adhesive dries! Wish me luck.

So where dose the motar go?
@AKJammer1 Жыл бұрын
Because their floor was already level, they just used an adhesive to stick it to the floor. If the floor wasn't level, they said to use a mortar base to sink it into making it level at that time.

Why did you leave out so much video showing how you did stuff such as putting the base in the opening. All of a sudden the base is in and you are securing the base. The whole video is like this. Lots of talk but did not show complete steps.

I wonder if these 2 ever held a hammer or drill nedore these videos. Like others have said they are working in perfect condition. Just plan on using a mortar bed to set the pan on/in. I had a reputable flooring company level my concrete floor under the pan as part of installimg my LVP. I set my pan in place and it was a rockin. Too bad I did not realize this before putting $20 in glue on the floor. When I picked tha pan back up hardly any of the 1/2" thick beads of adhesive had changed shape. To top it off, the statr to put adhesives under the entire pan when the egg crate does not extend all of the way out. Many other nubie moments spotted after rewatching the video thinking it was a good point of reference.....

The instructions for the Delta 500 says not to use plumbers putty on the drain,, it also says silicone and acrylic caulk will NOT adhere to the base,,, so WHAT do you use to in place of plumbers putty to seal the drain to the base ??

The installation instructions specifically say to use 100% silicon caulking, NOT plumbers putty.

@markfradl yeah, I use the amp max stuff they sell at home Depot. Some kind of hybrid. The drain kit says silicone even though delta doesn't want you to use it on their products. It can be confusing for people doing this themselves.

No mentioning of installing the shower drain. Don't follow these instructions.
@mattwise2741 Жыл бұрын
you are right. other than making sure the floor is level and the walls are plumb, the hardest part is making sure the drain goes in right. I think Delta doesn't want to get into the liability of telling people how to do the drain so they are relying on people hunting down the drain installation instructions from other places (DIY'ers on KZbin, Oatey, etc). Also there are different techniques if you are installing on subfloor with an accessible basement, or installing on slab. Making a mistake with the drain and you have problems.
