Technically if you don’t equip the Thorn Ring on Noelle (or don’t obtain it..) Berdly then it aborts unless you die but the sound still doesn’t really play at any point

Honestly, the way the option to say "Sorry, I'll do the puzzle" keeps coming up again and again gives me the idea that Kris really, really wanted to say that. Kris may be a weird kid but Noelle is their childhood friend, their neighbour since they were a little kid. They play a lot of pranks on her, a few bordering on mean, but... They don't want to hurt her, or make her hurt other people.

Yea, kris likes to play pranks and be a troublemaker, but they're very clearly against harming their friends at all. There's a moment where you have to hold down a button that turns off an electric gate, so noelle can walk through If you step off the switch just before noelle passes through, she jumps and screams, and kris smirks. However, if you step off the switch while she's passing through, it actually shocks her. Noelle doesn't seem too bothered by it, but she notices that kris looks upset afterwards

I saw something that said that the one thing you can’t get kris to do is actually kill since enemies just run at the end of a fight, but since nowell is inexperienced with the combat or the dark world, you can use it as a loophole to get her to kill

​​​@@quadrio1233it's more because they get frozen and a spell is harder to predict what it does For all the enemy knows, she could be casting a healing spell like ralsei did earlier in the chapter. They can't run if they're frozen. It's much harder to predict and dodge magic than a swipe of a sword.

On the other hand, we don't see Kris really showing any disapproval of what we're doing in the weird route. The closest we get is what happens when we prank Noelle with the laser, and that's not even something you do in that route. Why this odd discrepant seeming action? Well, there's two answers I can think of. Either Kris has less control in this route, or there's an actual difference between these actions that makes the prank unacceptable and the weird route acceptable. That second option isn't completely out of the question. Everything in the weird route does make Noelle "stronger". By the end, she's a powerhouse even stronger than we are (unless The Power Of NEO is somewhat lacking in cold resistance or something). Everything in the weird route is done to that end. The prank on Noelle is just a little cruel with no purpose behind it.

it's very useful in speedruns, since it auto-spares them, and allows you to recruit all 3 instead of having to do the maus/poppup or second poppup/poppup encounter. also spares all 3 at the same time as opposed to block and an individual spare most people probably didn't know since they see "click" as "the wrong" response, as in something like talking to the vegetoid in the RUINS netting you a joke response, but this one actually spares them

@@bagjpeg They're also super great for grinding money. Click for up to 3 Poppups, spare 1-2 of them, and repeat. With enough repetition and patience, you can get lots of money. Oh, don't forget about the Silver Cards you can craft at the beginning of Chapter 2 and that one item you can get from Spamton NEO after sparring (if you're not doing the Snowgrave route).

I just wanted to share something interesting that happened to me. So I decided to do a violent neutral playthrough and do an aborted Snowgrave route during it. I aborted the route by fighting Berdly instead of freezing him. And then the game continued to play like a normal neutral route. But when I went to visit Noelle at the hospital she still had the traumatized Snowgrave dialogue. So I wonder how this will affect my playthrough when the next chapters come out because Noelle is still affected by the events of Snowgrave and is wearing the Thorn Ring, but Berdly is also still very much alive, albeit with a broken arm.

The way the Weird Routes give you every chance to stop what you're doing is magnificent. The way they make you examine what exactly is driving you to proceed. The fandom was stupid about the Undertale route, trying to blame the first fallen child and ignore the player, and I think Snowgrave is in part a response to that. @Wolfgalaxy This is incorrect. Frisk is shown acting on their own multiple times during the game and talking to other characters. It cannot be Chara since the genocide route is required for them to take control. The whole point of Frisk having their own name is to be an entirely different person than you, Chara, or anyone else. They are not player incarnate, they just don't get much of a chance to speak (and when they do we're not allowed to hear what they're saying). You might be inclined to assume that Chara is the players stand-in instead, since they're the one you name, but this is also disproven since Chara acts on their own during the Genocide route without the players influence. They are also almost certainly the narrator for the entire game, and are even further proven to be a seperate entity from you when they bypass the 1 attack per turn rule to kill Sans for you, then proceed to kill Flowey entirely by themselves. During the Genocide route ending, Chara directly states that they gained their power from YOU, and end up taking your SOUL for themselves. The link between Chara and the Player isn't explained directly in-game, but we know there's some kind of connection since we're the ones that name Chara in the first place. Maybe the very act of naming them is what does this, since it's likely many players will choose their own name. Doing this links your SOUL to Chara somehow, and whenever you get stronger Chara does as well.

Undertale breaks these kinds of standard game tropes all the time, so trying to completely disregard the point by saying "other games don't do it" makes no sense. I hope we have both played the same game here. Just to be safe, I'll list out some of the evidence: - During the True Pacifist ending, Asriel realizes you are not Chara and asks you what your name is. Without any prompt from the player, Frisk responds with their own name. If Frisk were meant to simply be the player, this entire interaction wouldn't be happening. This name is instead used by Chara who is also not a self-insert for the player, even though they have the name the player chose. - During the Genocide route, Chara frequently wrests control from the player and acts on their own. They skip puzzles, kill others unprompted, and they are generally kind of a douche. The fact that this can even happen in Undertale already establishes that moments like this in the Neutral and Pacifist routes might be prompted by Frisk instead. If this is the case, Frisk would be responsible for moving behind the lamp at the beginning of Snowdin, giving Sans a "look" multiple times, asking Flowey why he's doing all this at the end of True Pacifist, and saying "I'm a stupid doodoo butt" and "I'm the legendary fartmaster" completely unprompted. There are countless instances of Frisk saying something to another character without any dialogue option for the player to choose. These actions are consistent and paint a clear picture of Frisk being patient and kind, the exact opposite of Chara. This means a lot considering what kind of game Undertale is, and the fact that the player is not fully in control is already established in the Genocide route. This alone should be proof enough if you played all of the routes and encountered these interactions yourself. - In the True Lab, you can encounter Snowdrake's mother. There are two specific ACTs in this fight in which the narrator, presumably Chara, proves that Frisk is their own entity capable of resisting the narrator and the player. If you Laugh, the narrator will state that you laugh uncontrollably at their suffering. They correct themselves as Frisk does not actually do this, with no input from the player. If you choose Heckle, the narrator states that you said something like "You look horrible. Why are you even alive?". Again, Frisk does not actually do this and the narrator corrects themselves. This resistance towards the narrator is not something the player can control. This is a meta interaction between the narrator and Frisk, which goes far beyond someone like Sonic talking to someone on his own. I mentioned Chara a lot because I wanted to be extra sure we were on the same page about the player not being fully in control, and Undertale's subversion of expectations. If you have played the game, that alone should say enough about Frisk not being a direct self-insert for the player. Clearly we were not on the same page, so hopefully this comment will fix some of those issues.

In short: The dialogue after Berdly's Battle is the same, no matter the route, ring or method, up to Noelle's last line, which has 3 differences, one exclusive to Spare during Snowgrave. The other two are "(If he would just listen to me...)" is she's at full HP (which is impossible with the ThornRing) and "(He hit me in the face with a tornado...)" if she's not.

As soon as the berdly fight is over if noelle had used snowgrave everything else is ticked to be snowgrave and you can't abort it after that. The mansion's rooms are made into the spamton variants, Spamton NEO is given his dialogue, ect.

actually, i think the game checks after the fight anyways to see what method you did after "proceed," why it loads in everything after as it would normal route (no missing cones, save spot in normal location), i would check it out but i really don't think that it would be snowgrave mansion and dialogue, since you have to go through the rest of the story flags. to be concise: the snowgrave aborted jingle plays and everything loads in as if it were normal route, and you'd have to get past the flags of the 4-party section and getting captured.

I'm pretty sure the difference between FreezeRing and ThornRing in the Berdly fight ("Proceed" segment) is caused by Noelle taking damage, not the Ring. Hence, (He hit me in the face with a tornado...) vs. (If he would just listen to me...)
