I was already guessing that the chapters would come out next year, and seeing this newsletter just basically confirmed that hypothesis, in my eyes. I don't find it irritating or anything of the kind, but it's strange to see so many people still jumping to the conclusion that the release will still be this year. I mean, it's feasible that a release at the tail end of the year is possible (not likely, but possible), but having the Japanese localisation, the console ports, and especially the mention of trailers, promotional material that needs to be done, the rating of the game that needs to be verified by the proper companies, all of that to still get into... sorry I'm no game developer, far from it, but the way Toby phrases it doesn't seem to indicate that such can be done in less than 5-6 months. I'd bet that in the September newsletter, we'll probably get the news that the chapter's content is fully complete, and that the translation will be in a good track to completion, probably like 75% done (seeing as the team just started it). Also I wanted to add that I believe bug hunting is way more complicated than it seems, because of the need to test in all console versions and English/Japanese versions. I think that part I'm specific will take a GOOD while. But hey, if the chapters do come out this year, I'll dress up as a clown and start screaming "My person is able to achieve all possibilities!" in the streets at night.

Toby Fox just has a different perception of time than most people. He says it's far away, but everything he wrote says "late 2024 early 2025" the fact that we have another newsletter scheduled for September is further proof that he expects to have more news, or maybe even a release date for us very soon. Just because Toby thinks that 6 - 12 months is far away, doesn't mean it's not soon for other people

According to toby, the game will be more than double in length with the addition of 3 and 4. Yeah, at the earliest, I'd say maybe middle of December but for all we know it might even be as late as March or April. Since it's not only is it the first time more than 1 chapter is being released at once, but on all consoles as well, it's pretty clear that it would take longer. Who knows though, maybe we'll get a better idea in the September newsletter, but the most we'd likely get is whether or not we'll get the chapters this year, which is sounding unlikely.

I was dead set on Oct 31st before this newsletter. Before they outlined the rest of the roadblocks like this, everything we were told (back in MAY mind you) simply said very little was left to be done. And that proved true, because its all but done now game development wise. And this is still 3 full months away from the Oct 31st date. And I always felt their internal goal was Oct 31st based on the reasons Cibles stated. But I feel like thats going to be a very difficult date to achieve now (though still possible!). Because of one aspect - the simultaneous console release. All that other stuff can very easily be done in 3 months without question. Especially since outside of the game maker testing for the game switching command, they are pretty much working on most of it already. The biggest issue is, console releases have a LOT of hurdles and delays baked in. And all of those require a finished product be presented first. You can't like, put it up for the release process which could take oh, 2-4 weeks? And then make adjustments and just ask to have them thrown in. Once you submit it I am pretty sure thats it, you let them do their thing and you basically work on marketing and all that outside stuff. You could still work on updates, but they need to be a patch, and said patch has to then go through those checks and crap for a console release. So that would be the biggest roadblock to making a closer release date. I still think its more likely it releases this year than 2025. Its absurd to me to think that 5 months isn't enough to translate (when Toby said himself thats not a big deal) and bug test. Those are really the only major work left beyond the console release part. But when all that has to be done before whatever delay there is for the console releases to be approved? Ehhh. The playerbase just feels so "wounded" by it taking this long, they are ultra scared to expect a reasonable release. Like I see some people still thinking this all will take it into 2026. Its absolutely absurd. Already replies here saying there is no way it comes out 2024. I chose to be optimistic and am fine with being wrong. I was 50/50 on there being a release date in this letter and am perfectly fine with not getting one.

Plus, something people are failing to consider is that Toby's definition of far away is probably different than yours. To Toby, a game developer who's been working on TWO CHAPTERS for one game over the course of 3+ years who's really passionate about his community's happiness, far away could only mean 6 or less months. But to an average person, far away is likely a year or two away (and I'll be hellbent if these chapters release in 2026). The point is, I want an original argument from someone in favor of how the release date is "far away" to the average person (far away being around 10-18 months away).

I'm thinking we're around 7 or 8 months away from release. Last time Toby had a friend test out the game 5 months before release and from the language in the newsletter, he makes it sound like it's going to take some extra time, so I'd wager it's going to be more than last time. As much as I'd love it to come out this year, I feel October is just out of the question. Holiday release for Christmas would be the best case scenario, if everything falls into place and goes smoothly, but I'm more confident in that it's probably going to come out in first half of 2025, maybe around March or April, maybe even as late as May.

Personally, since it's a paid release, and they want to release every version of the game at once, I'm thinking still another 6 months or so. At earliest around New Years. They gotta bug test the new GameMaker feature, localize the game, bug test that, adapt the game for consoles, and bug test that. That's just on the development side of things. They still also need to get the game rated, create promotional material/a trailer for the release, finalize and put together the OST for release, and other things he didn't specify. Cibles glossed over a lot of things in this video. Toby says himself the game is still FAR from release. So yeah, realistically, I'm thinking it'll be another 6-10 months for release. It all depends on how smoothly everything goes. It'd be cool if I'm wrong and it comes out earlier though!

1:58 As confident as I am that Chapter 3 and 4 will be DONE this year, it's also important to consider that the range of dates between a friend playing chapter 2 and it releasing is not a completely accurate representation of the time frame, as the console port didn't come out until ANOTHER 4 months later. Now, it's quite likely that Toby took a short break after it, since he said he was having issues related to fatigue and hand injury during the development grind, and factoring in the significantly larger team size, it's very plausible that means they can get the last of the chapter done AND those extra parts in this time, but I'm unsure of how long it will take. I was hopeful for Deltarune's anniversary, but I think if it will be this year, it will be late November to December

i could see that the gingerguard thing could actually be because of the kitchen in the dreemur house, and that basically the dark world in chap 3 will be based on ALL of the house with how the green room from the sweepstakes seems to reflect kris's room. maybe the idea of a cooking show could happen too but in that area. we will see i guess

I was talking to some of my friends about the potential of an October 31st release due to the fact that three months from the date that the newsletter was sent is October 31st, 2024. It may be possible that Toby saying we're "three months closer to release" is also teasing an anniversary release. With chapter two releasing on Undertale's 6th anniversary and this coming Halloween being Deltarune's 6th anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional

@@jacksonlindsley6802 Waiting two years is pretty unrealistic considering its nearly done besides the new feature and some porting and bugfixes, I personally think at most it comes out next summer but more likely I think its gonna come out sometime this winter (December 2024-Febuary 2025)

Chapter 3 most likely is going to be the entire living room because if It's the TV then from the endings of Chapters 1 and 2 then that means we would have to bring the entire TV to the closet or in a rare case take it apart,the thing that makes me say this is the shadow men because the shadow men are most likely the little decorations on the windows near the TV and the dark world will be TV based but it might not just be completely about TV's and might include a theorized secret boss being a plant amalgamation being the flowers toriel threw away as it makes an interesting fight

i personally think were seeing another 7-9 months of waiting. stress testing a feature as big as game_change will take a hot minute, and localization isnt easy. not to mention meticulously tweaking two chapters thatre larger than chapters 1 and 2 combined, to match every console's specifications.
