My favorite interpretation of gaster is and always will be interpretations that draw direct Inspiration from giygas and his theme. Gaster and giygas have a lot of parallels in the way that they generally feel and I love when those parallels are called into attention

the thing that really gets me about giygas and gaster comparisons is when they take into account who giygas was before he became… something else. giegue, while an alien intent on destroying humanity, was originally loved as much as any human child by his adopted mother maria. ninten and his friends reminding giegue of that love made him completely break down and it showed he wasn’t a one dimensional villain. i’ve seen theories that gaster was a kind soul beloved by monsterkind while he was alive, which is heartbreaking and begs the question as to what could’ve possibly happened to him to shatter him across time and space.
