"It's only you" is an actual quote in Deltarune which other than being ominous is clearly a reference to Undertale's "It's you!" & "Despite everything, it's still you" so makes sense.

if we do think in the perspective of gaster, he might not care enough to actually take kris and others as actual beings with emotions since he 'left' the plane of existence of being in a game. think of him like an artist. You will torture or be fascinated at stories about terrible things happening to good/terrible people and be curious by how much this will develop into. He might not be evil by nature but his actions are uncaring.

damn, this actually slaps given the vessel is discarded and the player and kris have to deal with each other, personal theory is that kris and the player collectively fight the vessel, sort of "rejecting" it fully or it could be the player trying to regain their vessel and kris trying to stop them idk either way its interesting to think about

I find it interesting how the art kind of suggests that either Kris and the Vessel are fighting over the SOUL or that the player is on Kris' side here. Could be interesting if the Vessel comes back later to try and like 'steal us back' or something but by that point we've already made a connection with Kris. Anyway the song is a B a n g e r

Okay, just cracked a theory by listening to this BANGER of a song. What if the vessel is who you're supposed to play as, but you got accidentally put into kris instead?

That would appear to be what everything is pointing to. The intro voice in the GONERMAKER very heavily is implied to be Gaster himself, from the twitter lead in directly quoting entry 17 to the entire sequence being called the "GONERMAKER", and most notably the Typer Value (An internal value used in the UTDR text engine to store text setting information; for instance, Sans has his own typer value that tells the text engine to scroll at x speed, use the comic sans font, use the sans talksound, etc) is set to 666, which is the same number id used in undertale for entry 17. In later scenes Gaster also uses typer value 667, I think specifically in the game over screen. But when Gaster is telling us about our WONDERFUL CREATION at the end of the sequence, the following text ("Will now be discarded. Nobody can choose who they are in this world. Your name is...") is in proper casing, a different font (it no longer has the glowey effect), no longer using typer value 666 or an adjacent one. It uses Typer Value 2, which is used by multiple characters (I think susie uses it in the light world? It's basically just the normal font but without a talksound, so the text scrolls silently. What's important is that it isn't 666), and, further, in the J a p a n e s e V e r s i o n, the writing systems that Gaster use in the gonermaker sequence are different when it gets to "Will now be discarded". TLDR another character interrupted the vessel sequence. It does seem reasonable to conclude that Gaster's plan originally was to have us in the Vessel, but someone or something else intervened, and we ended up in Kris instead.
