I have been duck hunting near Last Mountain Lake National Refuge since 1982. It's about a 19 hr. drive from home. The biggest problem with duck production is lack of water. I supported Adopt a Pothole for many years but no water means no nesting. Also farmers disk and plant old potholes as soon as the land is dry enough which destroys cover even if the water comes back. It takes at least 2 years to restore a dried up pothole.

The small water holes are SO incredibly important for ducks. Mr. Devny says it best here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5LdYaJuqNF4f5Y You also make an intelligent, but hard point that it's a hard road back once just one of these is gone.
