It's odd to me that they didn't broach the subject about what happens when they people directing the blind hate mob get the wrong person. Or even better, when someone uses that sort of thing to harass a completely innocent person. That could have just been a picture of someone walking their dog, and their ex making up a story to send the internet after them.
@Renagade23323 жыл бұрын
Well it seems like they delved into that just a tad with the hate mob targeting the victim due to his prior negligence of texting and driving. The detective arguing that it was the police's job to take corrective social action is pretty condemning of groups who target and harass people from an online forum. Of course its followed up by the detective getting doxxed and then smeared, even though he did not threaten or do anything violent towards the owner of the website.

1) The show is Law & Order SVU: Special Victims Unit. It has nothing to do with a motor vehicle. 2) You must've started watching SVU during more recent seasons bc DW makes it a point to NOT put too much emphasis on the detective's personal lives. 3) Other than Amanda and Carisi's budding relationship there really isn't a lot of air time spent on their love lives. I have seen every single SVU episode multiple times over its 23 season run. There have been glimpses of their personal lives in multiple arch episodes, but those usually have something to do with a case.

I agree. I can understand learning bits about the detectives lives to give them more depth, but SVU has whole episodes where only small parts are about the crime and everything else is about the detectives private lives which has nothing to do with the crime. It means I can sometimes watch an episode and due to skipping past the detectives lives I only end up watching about 10 minutes of it which is the crime and the result.

The woman was brought in for questioning, because she had posted a death threat on a website towards the person who died. The woman, under questioning, claimed she made those comments in a sort of revenge, because her daughter had been killed in an accident involving a taxi driver texting while driving. The Police tried to look up the incident, but found no record of such an accident. Further, they found out that the woman's daughter was not dead at all, but had been taken away by child protective services. The reason the daughter was taken was because the woman had been caught trying to have her daughter made a human sacrifice by a catholic church. The woman then claimed that the deceased was being given messages from the devil to kill others. The woman had made up the entire accident story. In this clip, it isn't made clear if she really believes her daughter was killed, or if she is just lying to try to get away with murder.

So, in other words, she’s in self-delusional denial about everything screwed up about herself? 🤨

The guy was texting while driving (obviously it looks way out of touch and obnoxious) but how did someone take the picture if they were alone?

The description says Season 20. That was 2009. Wow. Nobody yet knew how bad incitement, doxxing, and hiding behind the First Amendment was going to get.

7:40 "3 years ago my daughter was killed by a taxi driver". 8:29 "we checked accident reports from 3 years ago and there was no report involving a taxi and a child". I mean even if she was sitting there for hours, it's probably still not enough time to do a report based on information that vague. But even if there was, she didn't even say where it occurred (unless she told them off camera). But even with the computer tech of 2009 it would probably take a lot longer to check every report from 3 years ago. And I guarantee there was at least one report involving a taxi an child.

@@Renagade2332 Doxxing is literally a crime and can get you a year in jail plus a $1,000 fine. The man was an accessory to this crime by providing a platform that allowed users to openly dox people and incite violence. This is not protected by the first amendment right to free speech. On top of that, a man was possibly killed directly due to his action of doxing him. That in itself could be manslaughter or being an accessory to murder.

@@rhuephus right. So taking a pic with a phone while driving is the same as texting. Both use of a phone device while driving . Both are illegal. I think that is what Nevertoleave meant.

Blonde hair, blue eyes reminds me of the policewoman who shot that man in his own flat. I’ve always wondered what he could have done differently to avoid being murdered.. maybe he should have eaten popcorn instead of ice-cream.

How tf did they identify someone posting some random message board? Even if they were using their unmasked IP addresses many ISP's cycle those and only they would be able to pair the address with personal data for which they'd need a warrant.
