How do you stop c02 build up in the helmet? Must pump air round the loop?, how do you bail to a regulator? I.e loop fail and costic? I tried the old BBC unit years ago.

The co2 is scrubbed. A fan in the circuit keeps the large volume moving, much like in a submarine. The breathing loop can be isolated which then makes the helmet open circuit for bailout purposes. The previous bubble helmets were constant flow so they were loud and required large gas volumes. This system addressed those two issues.
