Sir,1. Increase in demand of a currency leads to its appreciation. Then why does the foreign exchange rate go down on increase in demand of foreign exchange. ( 1 $ = Rs.60 changes to 1 $ = Rs. 56 on increase in demand on dollar. So isn't this leading to depreciation of dollar inspite of the increase in its demand ).

Foreign exchange rate is going down as here 1$=56 (now).It will lead to increase in demand for dollars. As for example,keep yourself in the market,you will wish to buy 1$ more than ur previous demand just becoz you have to pay less of Rs. to get it. Hence demand for dollars increases when foreign exchange rate goes down.

Eg :- $1= 60Rs( assume) Now, Appreciation of Indian currency means difference between Dollar and Rupees will fall ( i.e. $1= Lower that 60Rs) . While Depreciation of INR means difference between Dollar and Rupees will increase (i.e $1 = Higher that 60Rs)
