Important thing is that when u do transaction in discount brokerage than now it takes T+2 days for settlement whereas in Bank Demat account if you do any trading then yr settlement is done instantly

As per my knowledge , for that one should assigned a nominee at the time of Demat opening or later too with his/her details with necessary documents..if something wrong happened with us, all the shares are transfered to nominee with the references of some physical documents and so..nominee has to approach to the nearest branch of broker.,,
