Yukari's power is the manipulation of borders. What this means is that if there is either a physical or conceptial barrier she is able to use it. The simplist of them all in the boundry of here and there which manifests as her gaps. But to show real power she manipulated the boundry between truth and lies, which is basically the difference between fiction and reality, to create a portal in the reflection of the moon on a lake to invade the linar capital. Aside from that she is also an immensely powerful Onmyodo, having personally defeated a kyuubi kitsune by herself and binding an almost godlike beast as a personal servant, aside from that as well, she, Yukari Yakumo was the one to personally pitch, and over the course of one hundred and fifty years, personally created the Great Hakurei Barrier using a willing shinto miko and her bloodline as the stabilizing catalyst.

An excellent description of her power, but for one point. Yukari did not make the Great Hakurei Barrier all by herself. Yuyuko states even she didn't have the power to do it alone, Akyuu revealed that other youkai sages and the Dragon God himself were involved in its creation, and the opening to the first Touhou game says there were humans involved as well. So while it was probably Yukari's idea, and of course it's linked to the Hakurei maidens, it took a LOT of people to seal Gensokyo away.

It feels oddly nostalgic every time I listen this. I found this remix somewhere in 2012 or 2013 after being interested in the original piece of music from this piano black midi I found. I was still in middle school back then and I absolutely loved this remix from Demetori and had it on repeat for weeks. Every time I listen to this now I keep thinking of those times. This piece of music is so good, especially now that I see how interesting the original and this composition actually is, and is really just dear to my heart.

This song and those pictures are freaking awesome *o* Just a question: is Yukari the most powerful being in the "Touhou" series? I mean her ability is to manipulate boundaries right? And not just physical boundaries either but also conceptual ones too? So by extension she should be able to manipulate anything with a boundary to a degree, right? But does that mean she can manipulate boundaries to their extreme - e.g. a tree has a boundary that separates itself from the rest of existence - if Yukari got rid of this boundary she could effectively remove the tree from existence, right? Not only that if she could manipulate conceptual boundaries - could she manipulate existence itself? Or rather the barrier between existence and non-existence and by getting rid of it could she merge the two or get rid of both? If all that's the case her powers are insanely hax.

Also Redtails, none of the characters' danmaku prowess/stage position are related to their actual powers, although their powers are sometimes incorporated in their spellcards.

She has the POTENTIAL to have infinite power thanks to her ability. Whether she actually has it or not is unknown, since we're never shown her using it seriously. She is defeated by Watatsuki no Toyohime in Silent Sinner in Blue, but it's revealed she was only acting later. The only being actually known to be above her is the Yama, whose judgment is absolute. Oh, and in case that wasn't enough, there are hints that she's also the mysterious god of the Hakurei Shrine in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and the Fairies comics.

I wasn't saying she was the strongest in all of Gensokyo I was saying that at this moment in time she is considered the most powerful youkai. A Yama is not a youkai so intern we are only talking about youkai. Her close second would be Yuuka in any comparison. Yama is above all stronger than Yukari being in the dealings of absolute judgement. And i think she could very well be the goddess of Hakurei shrine.

Yakumo Yukari's ability to manipulate boundaries is limited by what she can perceive and conceive of. It's like walking across a tightrope with swinging logs trying to knock you off into the abyss. Without knowledge of where to first step onto the tightrope, you're liable to step off into the abyss. Without the skill to perceive those logs and time the gaps between their swings, you're liable to get knocked off. Without the ability to conceive an end to the tightrope, you are unable to define a boundary, especially with the vagueness of trying to define exactly what a thing is. You could try and guess what to do without perceiving and conceiving, but you're likely to get it wrong. The more vague a boundary, especially conceptual boundaries, the more powerful a manipulation can be done at the cost of it being harder to do. The more defined a boundary, the easier and less powerful it is, but too defined, you're going to slice your foot off the tightrope, and the less room there is to manipulate definitions, the Boundaries of things. That's why Eiki Shiki's ability to define black and white is so powerful against Yukari. It clearly defines things as this or that, black and white. Schrondinger's cat box is almost a perfect arena to manipulate what happened there. As long as you know the set up and the pieces, it becomes a perfect mix of vagueness and well-defined to manipulate. Devil's proof, the manipulation of fantasy and reality, is the easiest way to manipulate powerful boundaries without losing sight of their definitions, but is easily countered whenever contradiction is brought in by outside sources. Therefore, fantasy cannot become reality whenever the reality shown contradicts the fantasy.
