Just to explain this to everyone, her father passed away a year before this, and though this song is written about trenton, a friend who passed away when Demi was 13, she generally dedicates it to her father. Her step dad who she calls her dad cuz he's an amazing dad to her, is the one who she sang the song to. He is still alive she just knows he will always be there for her and wanted to sing this almost like a thank you to him.
