I tell myself that silent moment is music too. It is the stuff that makes this kind of music true. I can only accomplish it on my piano if I am left alone and unbothered. As soon as someone steps in to the vibe it changes the jam. I am sure with a drum set it would be a different story. Oh, this is a fantastic album. 😊

The low frequencies rattle the snare in my living room...I couldn't imagine this music without it now. The air coming out of the back of the monitors moves the tapestries, and the room breathes and I breathe with it, the visual and aural cues.

@@durden91tyler that's a REALLY broad question. Main thing is spend on speakers. Even cheap amps today are great (not so back in the golden age), things like fancy DACs are a waste of money if you're starting out. As for turntables, get a used one that's a known quality brand for cheap (just keep browsing 'til you get lucky). THE most significant bang for your buck will be on the speakers themselves.

@@dmonvisigoth1651 That makes sense- it’s great music to read to, as well. I don’t write, but I’m a voracious reader. I tried to write a few times, mainly back in my 30s, but I ended up writing like I write comments- which is to say, too much like I talk, with tangential asides (and far too many things in parentheses)👈🏻. I’ve always been someone who appreciates other people’s writing, and I stick to the visual stuff- drawing, painting, and sculpting. Usually I end every night in bed with a good book, my dog having crawled under the covers and snoring little chihuahua snores, and my earbuds in, with either a dark ambient soundtrack or an album like this one, doing the heavy lifting of turning my mind off (or at least putting it on pause). Anyway- I’m curious, what do you write?

Out of black oblivion, I spotted a golden river of light cutting through the abyss -an oasis of life in a wasteland of nothingness. As I approached it, I found that it was just as lifeless as the void that encroached upon it. No car nor soul dare disturb the surreal scene before me. Making my way down the lonesome streets, I began to hear something slow...steady...rhythmic. I had to strain to hear it sometimes; it was so faint. Although I never found the source of this music, for some strange reason, it seemed to be calling out to me; it was as if it were trying to ask me a question. A stranger dressed in all black who taps you on the shoulder and lets you turn around to simply disappear on you -vaporize out of thin air. It asks me "Why are you here?", and I've nothing to defend myself with except "...I don't know...but I think I want to stay awhile".

Was there black face mask too along with all black clothes? Then it was probably me tapping on your shoulder. I do that from time to time to strangers and then immediately -vaporize out of thin air. Why I do that? Sometimes to bring the news and sometimes to bring just nothing. Cannot guarantee any good or bad news or news at all, but can happen. Hate bringing bad news, but cannot choose if they are actually bad or good or neither.

That all aside, the two genres you'll want to check out would be “ambient jazz” and “dark jazz.” Some post-rock bands like This Will Destroy You or Godspeed You! Great choice. I could also see this as the backdrop for a planning session of a Shadowrun campaign.

I could imagine that *this* is the music that exists behind the red theatrical curtains, that are _always just there_ somewhere, in every single (major) Lynch movie work. (Even in the black & white Eraserhead... Behind the radiator.....You just *know* they're RED)

nce I had to drive the band in a limousine for a TV report. The filmmaker said: Hacky, tonight you will be driving a band laying the slowest music ever. They very very, very nice people, they even a bit like their music. I love this band from my hometown Cologne
