The most optimized path of playing this game does not net you enough AP reliably for someone to rank up once you get to Exemplar 3+

For the last couple of days I've been stuck halfway through Voyager 2 and it honestly makes me glad to see someone saying something about the entry cost. Can literally go 4 hours without dying, only making around 100-200 AP a game just to die once and lose most of that progress. Great content, love it as always!

Averaging extracted AP over living players would be a great idea in my opinion. It would remove loot funneling, and make it more fair for teams to play together as no one is ever 'stealing' the best loot.

I think it should be averaged over your teammates regardless if one lived or not. A living player's contribution should add to the AP pool (treasure etc). If one of your teammates dies, it's a penalty for everyone.

The best way to handle that I would think is kills should just count for everyone on the team rather then only counting who got the kill, but treasure has to actually be taken out. Interactions could go either way as they have a generally low AP value to begin with. You cant really totally get rid of loot funneling though because any loot left on a dead body can be picked up by another player on another team so it can still count for your team unless someone takes it out. Like at one point quest kills only counted if you were the one that got the kill but now the whole team gets credit so they should be able to have kills give credit to the whole team. I dont think you even need to average it as it is not going to make that much of an impact overall if each person gets 30 AP for a mini-boss or have to share that 30 split three ways into 10 each it is the difference of opening a couple extra chests now. Also I think more teams would be willing to fight if they know they are all going to potentially get 100 ap each per kill rather then just the one getting the killing blow. Though that does in theory mean a player kill is actually worth more like 300ap (technically, at least in trios) I suppose you could just average it all in general but only count who lives. So if all three make it out and all together you manage to pull out 3000 AP then you each get 1000 AP even if one person has 400 one has 1600 and the other has 1000. Though that does kind of suck for the guy that managed to get 1600 I guess, but everyone would know that is the system going in, and you would all want to try to get as much as you can to get that average higher. Though if that guy with the 1600 dies and only the other two make it out with 1400 total AP between them then it should only be 700 to each of them and the one that died looses their entry fee. Even doing that though the best you are going to do in AP is maybe a little higher then if you were solo just because of more mob kills and more boxes opened, and the fee is higher anyway which negates the extra you make for going faster with more numbers.

My thinking was that punishing mainly the person that died would be better, however letting other team mates take some of the burden of death while also punishing them for not getting their whole team out is probably better overall.

My thoughts if anyone cares (s1 i had ~150,000 points as #4 warlock damn u Ansom lol): 1. Entrance fees are not sustainable at the current numbers 2. Point 1 is fine because focusing on reaching Demi this early in the wipe nullifies the need for achievements such as questing and craft unlocks later down the line. (This is an artificial timegate) 3. Focusing on min maxing AP for the leaderboard without an artificial timegate or restriction will increase the burnout players will feel much too early into the wipe 4. DaD needs to entice players to continue grinding later into the wipe, instead of hyper farming a character to Demi in 30 raids then "retiring that character" 5. Whether you like it or not we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars

No but really, if they keep the entrance fees like this only for the early wipe and lower it as wipe progresses, it MAY (emphasis on may) have a positive effect on players experience by making players focus more on experiencing the game instead of experiencing the gains (the AP gains) Hope that makes sense

wild take but i think a rank system (atleast one that only rewards surviving) ruins the game and makes people so scared to fight. ontop of losing gear you lose ap. theres 0 reason to risk your life aside from money which isn't hard to get at all considering most gear is cheap.

I kept a log last season from pathfinder and up because I am weird like that. Hit Demigod in 6 days (one was a wash though with only 428 AP earned after 10 games of getting run down over and over). My average profit the entire time regardless of rank was about 400 AP per run on ice caves. I did not kill any Wendigos however (except cheesing the elevator one a few times) as I still cant really fight them. Still practicing how to fight them. However that means I almost never even broke 1k AP per run, and I was using your strategy of more or less going in naked and equipping gear as I found it. I only kept the best stuff I found and even split my candy and popped luck potions every game, but still only was getting between 600 at 800 AP per run before the AP entry fee. That said my general luck for finding gear is just awful in general and most runs if I dont take green items I wont even leave with a full inventory, and treasure was very very scarce for me the whole season (outside of grey and white treasure) I am hoping this season goes better but so far my luck is looking about the same, but I have only played a hand full of HR games as I got a friend to play and have been teaching him the ropes in normal lobbies for now.

I think there’s a better way to go around this. Ranked could be something related more to like…a guild..idk Where you give the guild more benefits/reputation (be it via Lending them gold or Killing enemies/monster) and your rank eventually goes up. And if you don’t provide a certain amount of gold after some time and/or keep losing battles againts opponents, the reputation of the guild goes down, and so does your rank.

The thing about luck is that it has some weird interactions past like 180 luck. The way it works is that it will increase your chance to find purples, legendary or even unique... it is also upping the table of loot you can get in greens and blues. So past a certain point you can actually end up causing the numbers to find MORE greens and blues because you have too much luck. Super strange I know. For legendary, unique and named uniques stacking crazy luck might be smart but just for grinding AP stacking luck past like 180 will actually start to cuck you. EDIT and disclaimer: Word of mouth from collector's discord and I don't remember the actual number I was told but it was close to that range.

I also tried running a 283 luck build for 2 hours on ice caves and overall ended up finding better treasure items in chests with most being blue and some purple. But I only found 2 purple armor pieces during that period, so I wouldn't recommend running luck to find good gear from chests. Luck definitely feels like it's more useful for treasure piles and bosses.

My only issue with AP right now is that Solos are basically fucked since Goblin Caves dont have down portals. If it’s nearly unobtainable in trios then it’s completely unobtainable in solos

It's very strong and it needs to be tweaked. If you say it's not then you were currently maining the class and don't want it touched. Cleric needs to be tweaked, fighter and barb. You aren't helping the game if you are pure cope and don't call out the over tuned classes. You want the game to be as balanced as it can be. If you don't you'll get what you get now and get lobbies full of barbs, clerics and warlocks. Mix some fighters in there too😭😂

Everyone is forgetting or just not talking about the possibility that Ironmace is just using this as a literal gate to keep anyone from high ranks until later in the season. If people hit demi god 4 weeks in they stop playing till next season if they are capped to weekly quest progression and then a monthly update lowering entry costs then people will keep playing.

Getting kills and picking up juicey loot also kills your ap. I had a full inventory of loot that could not be passed up in path 3 and got like 60 ap that run. Kinda sucks cause in a higher rank I'd just loose ap at that point.

The whoel ranked system needs a rework.. When Normals is more sweaty than High Roller you know you've fucked up as game devs. It was the same last season too.. NOrmal was more sweaty because you'd go into Normals and people wouldn't care about losing a kit, it was a no risk, high reward. Then everyone was just spongebob in High Rollers... I don't want to see someone with a flashy Demigod cape or cosmetic and be like "oh wow, he really grinded that PvE loot grind!" At that point its an insult to yourself just obtaining it.

I think the grind to demi shouldn't be crazy, this game is a game where you hop on, have fun and play with buddies. It's not going to be a e sport, and it should be the extraction DND game they intended to make. If you put in the time and grind correctly it should be obtainable. Saying that hitting demigod without cheating/funneling is incorrect. It is achievable without either. i've always been with the opinion that to hit the highest rank on the leaderboard you should need to be one of the best in every aspect of the game, both PvE and PvP. Currently with the AP costs, the requirement to hit demigod is that you get gold pile every run. That means to gain enough points per run, you not only need to be proficient at maximizing AP through PvE, but good enough in PvP to consistently win gold pile. Alternatively, you could also hit demigod by running 220 luck gear + a luck pot every run without getting gold pile (with that much luck, every chest almost becomes the equivalent of a gold pile pull). As an example, at exemplar 1 you will gain on average 200-300 AP per run if you get gold pile + gaining AP through other PvE means. My highest AP gained so far in a single run as a solo has been north of 2k, but that was with full max luck gear + a luck pot. A more consistent realistic number is going to be somewhere around 1500-1700 before entry cost. Not everyone should be able to hit Demigod. I think it's better that only a top % of people can hit it. Of course there are currently ways of "cheating" your way there in duo's/trios by using a funneling strat which is kind of lame but it is achievable without. I wouldn't even mind if they went a step further and put a cap on the amount of players who can be in demigod. Also, dont take offense to this critique but take it as words of hope in case they dont change the AP system, but based on your clear in the video posted you didn't even hit the halfway point of what you should have cleared. Your spawn is an easy 6 module clear path once you become very proficient at the map. With more practice on Ice caves you will be able to do this eventually and significantly increase the amount of AP you gain. I'm also playing solo in to duos ice cave and currently exemplar without really playing that many runs.

Multiple top players are mentioning they had to hardcore funnel to get their ap above 36k. and yes, it 100% matters when at the higher tier costs a single death sets you back FAR too much. Doesn't matter how good you are. 1 death is going to take nearly perfect 8+ runs to get you back to where you were.
