One type of pipe design I haven't heard mentioned - let alone heard - is the 16' Open Wood - Haskelled! There used to be a sample of this design at J.W.Walker's when their factory was in Ruislip. Essentially the open 16' is much less than 16' in speaking length and the lower sound created/formed by the insertion of a stopped-at-one-end metal pipe hung from the top end. I can remember no more than this. Who was Mr. Haskell? At that time Walkers were involved in the rebuild of Holy Trinity Brompton, London (and St.Matthew's Northampton) which included a stopped chimney flute designed by the same person as designed the organ in the Royal Festival Hall. The chimney slid up and down the outside of the flue and used felt cupped around the bottom of the chimney. The scaling of this stop was large diameter - but I imagine tuning it was a bit difficult due to the close fit and need to get at both sides in order to attack it!

The first 8 pipes of the 16' Principal are Haskell pipes on this organ. They are mounted on the back wall of the pedal towers.

@@bkarosi Thanks for this very interesting info. Obviously the pipe I knew wasn't a 'one-off' pipe at Walkers then. Apart from making it possible to use shorter pipes but of the correct scaling, Any ideas as to the scaling between the main wood pipe and its inserted stopped ended pipe? length of Haskell insert compared to length of 'mother' pipe? How do they blend in with the rest of the stop? Presumably they were Haskelled due to height limitations?

Over the years I have heard the world's greatest organists, but you have a special genius that I have never come across before. Amazing!

Your demonstrations are informative, interesting and varied - the icing on the cake is that each stop and all registrations are named, as this really helps the memory!

After listening to this for about three times, I love this amazing organ. Your demonstration is wonderful. Reminds me of the Northern Germany organ in Basedow. Germany.

Is there a Tremulant to go with the Vox Humana? I recall tuning the 5 manual in Doncaster Parish church (UK) - and I used to sneak in there at dead of night and play the Vox Humana with Tremulant - very eerie indeed!

Great balance on a smaller organ. Immediacy of the pipes speech was very apparent. And serves the instrument and the acoustic well. Thanks for making this video Balint!

What an amazing spec this organ has! And you have demonstrated it to perfection! Thank you! The Pedal Organ has an amazing pair of reeds as well as the two flues. It's a tracker?

The reeds are a bit too German for my taste but they compliment the tonal design very well.

Wonderful videos...... and I spent 10 days, in July, with a new friend, walking all over the beautiful city of Budapest, then Szentendre, and Godollo! Unfortunately I heard no Hungarian pipe organs...... hopefully next trip! Thanks for these great sounds!

To my admittedly uneducated ears, the Vox Humana of this organ sounds like a harpsichord with sustain. :o
@cornwalldragon46175 жыл бұрын
That's what I hear too. It doesn't sound like a traditional Vox. It's like a harpsichord or maybe a regal.

On the (electronic) Johannus Sweelinck 30, that's exactly what the Vox Humana is - there's also a harpsichord and it's exactly the same sound, but with different attack and decay.
@agogobell284 жыл бұрын
A Vox Humana is basically a soft Regal anyway.

A beautiful instrument. But why no Swell Céleste or Pedal Gedecktbass/Bourdon? Not good.
@OrgelTW3 жыл бұрын
dritte Manual ist eigentlich Oberwerk. es hat nur für praktisch „Swell“ genannt. und diese Orgel ist Arp Schnitger Stil. Pr16‘ in Pedal ist schon genug für spielen.

Beautiful instrument but in this day and age having no combination action is ridiculous. To play a recital you need to have 2 registrants to help you.
