i understand completely. i did find a way to recompile the code so i could edit it how i see fit, and i probably will for personal use or if friends want certain things, but i will not upload anything or remake stuff with the engine unless given permission. This would just be a personal thing, and little more. I have even been getting good enough to make sprites that are at the same standard as yours, which my friends appreciate, cause you don't want some wierdo out of place sprites. this game is awesome, and i am just trying to make sure that some people see what could have been, and if i can do that... then maybe all this work will not be in vein.

I just had one question, the version 0.2.4, are there really 45 power stars to be found in it? We've only found 34 so far and there doesn't seem to be anymore levels to unlock. My son & I have been successfully playing v0.2.4 on linux using wine after installing DirectX. Very fun game, great work.

Yes there are indeed 45 Power Stars, there are a few secret stars in Toad Town and the rest come from Star Coins which you can trade for Power Stars by talking to the Star Smith in Toad Town.

With regards to your code, you could open source it under a different name, so someone could make a new game with your engine. That way your work will have continued future results, while not preventing you from coming back at some point and sharing your completed vision in the future. Porting games are usually a chore so I was expecting this from a mile away. You should be happy about how long you've kept this project up and running, you've worked a lot on this and you should be proud, at least for me you've reached your objective of making your fangame the greatest mario fangame. I will always try to support you in your future indie projects due to the high quality shown in this fan project. Also, I think you should indeed make this open source, but add some rules/guidelines such as "do not use this to continue PSF and only use it if you need some important code" or something like that, or "do not keep or use any of the original spritework". Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

I just found out this fan game a couple of months ago and I have to say that you for sure put a lot of time and effort into this. I'm even more surprised that a person who's 18 years old can make a superior Mario game like this with the coding and clean animations because I'm 18 as well and I've barely scratched the surface of game development. Sad to hear that, man! This game was looking really gorgeous and after while some things come to an end. I respect your decision. While I wasn't active in the Discord server and I can't speak from experience (since idk shit about game developing) but developing a fangame like this can make you stress out in a variety of ways. You definitely deserve a break, dude! You're 18, go and enjoy life at it's fullest instead of focusing on this project. It's a bad idea to continue working on something if you start losing interest. This game is an amazing fan game and I haven't seen anything even close to it in quality! I truly believe that you made the right call in discontinuing the game so that you can feel happy again and go on to do and make better things. This game was great, sad that you can’t finish it but I understand why, you don’t want to be 30 and your still working on this. But one day, maybe one day you will make an indie game that represents the time you made power star frenzy. Sad to hear it was canceled but you might comeback or not. But this game was great and it succeeded and it’s okay if you quit, people can’t hold on to their projects or anything forever, it’s been a great journey. there is another full game that has beta levels and wario and waluigi but i think that one is also discontinued and the world map is a little small like its just a star and characters dont have a marker stand animation and the emblem of the character you are playing as only shows up when you move

I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. And I hope things look up for you as quick as possible. Life can be tough sometimes, but we can’t let us drag us down. I promise you that I’ll create something even better than PSF. If you really admired PSF you should totally check out Super Mario Flashback, Super Mario Unimaker, Mario Multiverse, or Super Mario Bros. Midas Machine. These are all excellent fan games!

Well... this year couldn't get any worse of a start. This is horrible, I wish I could help with the development or something but I can hardly code, I'm still learning C++. But, if it no longer gives you passion then... that's fine. But, if I could have one request, it's that you never take the game down. New players might not have been here to see the amazing updates or anything, but what matters is new players can experience the joy of this fangame, even if it's now cancelled.
