Demo - Square Card Reader from Squareup.com

Hey guys! This video demonstrates the Square Card Reader from the folks at Squareup.com. Along with your iPhone, iPad, and Android device, you're able to take credit card payments with your Square Card reader. It's fast, safe, easy to use, and absolutely free to acquire and use. The transaction process as well as the sign up process is very easy and user friendly. The set up process requires you to have a bank account in order for payments to be received. The only downside to it is that it doesn't work 100% on the iPhone 4 due to the metal frame found on the iPhone 4. I'm anticipating the arrival of the new model that Squareup.com will be shipping out. Please look forward to that video as well. It's definitely not a scam. Many people use this service with no problems. I've used this card reader for over a year now and haven't had any problems at all. I know other people that have it too and love it.

obviously if you have a small business, you already know you have to look into everything....its fast and easy!!! being well organized will keep your business open even if your a doctor etc..!! think about how fast and easy it is for people who are always on the go!!

Thank yo got this good and informitive video. I an a landlord and could not only use this for credit card rent payments but also for sending receipts for cash payments. I do have two suggestions. 1.) put a piece of masking tape over the top of the Iphone and cut a small hole to prevent it from shorting out. 2.) Remove your credit card number that is visible on the screen after you swipe the card so that nobody starts using it on you.

Ok I ordered my square Suprised to see they are now selling them in starbucks....weird but my concern is the only negative thing I have read is that they may decide to hold your funds....which is a huge negative and since there is not customer service WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THAT HAPPEPNS???

If your having problems using the iPhone 4 OR 4s then put a little piece of paper BETWEEN the card reader and the phone. I used I piece of clear tape, and cut the hole out. No more shorts

@fearjp From what I understand, yes. I have two accounts and two card readers and use both for the same device. Just make sure you're logged on to the correct account through the Square App.

@shadow9879 Yes, the rate is 2.75% for a swiped charge, and 3.5% for a keyed charge. It is free to get, but not free to use. It is, however, the least expensive processor on the market right now.

@chibikawaiichris When signing up for a Square account, they require you link the device to your personal back using your routing number. When the card is slid, it'll be transfer the proper funds to your linked bank account.

The guy warned that the square might not work because of the aluminum housing surrounding the iPhone 4 coming in contact with the metal base of the unit. When he plugged in the reader, the video shorted out.

read the EULA and it explains that if you have more than a certain number of swipes and more than $20,000 in swipes, Squareup is required to report this to the IRS for tax purposes.

You could coat the part that is coming in contact with the iPhone 4 with clear fingernail polish or lacquer to prevent it from contacting. :)

How would you print a recipe from you phone? Obviously there is no way that would be possible. You either have to email them the recipe which is super easy and I don't see why they would care, or send it in a text message.

I'm still waiting for the device to arrive but I picked up an ipad mini to use with it. I'm not sure if they changed it to where wh upload images into our account with the prices and just build a list of the items the customers want when they buy? I'm a little confused about how the customers select what they want to purchase when we upload images to the account.

@fearjp Hi! Well, they would have to open up their own account. However, you both could use the same reader and same iPod Touch/iPhone, you'd just have to sign in and out instead of leaving it signed in by default.

I am from P.R. and I have been waiting for a long time know and after Square says that it can not ship it to P.R. I found a way to find a square card divice and active the bank account but when I try to use it all that it says is please retry. What could it be?

You can probably get a headphone a Headphone Adapter for Apple iPhone Recessed Jack, 3.5mm Male Female Extension Plug - White... to avoid that metal strip/.

@Shockcrasher This is true. However, there are remedies for this. Try taking YOUR WIFE'S clear nail polish and coat the bottom of the base of the jack. (just find where the base touches the side of the iphone 4) and it should be fine. an also quick yet ghetto remedy is to place a paper between your idevice and your Square Card reader. I call this the "Public bathroom method" nuff said...

@Robertson5150 This is the problem with Square. They are a third party processor (ie no one actually has their own merchant account). They get you setup, then, like some who have commented on this video, people setup accounts for illegal use. All users share the risks which causes Square to hold funds, hassle their users, and shut people down. phoneSWIPE is arranged completely different. Still no fees, no contract, free equipment, but every business has their own account. See my channel.
