The second day of South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice at The Hague saw Israel take the stand, defending against accusations that its government is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. South Africa is demanding an emergency suspension of Israel's aerial and ground assault on Gaza in front of the United Nations' highest court. From The Hague, we hear from Diala Shamas, a senior staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights, the organization that sued President Biden in November, accusing him of failing to prevent genocide in Gaza. Shamas recaps the two days of hearings and discusses other avenues for holding Israel accountable. "Whether it's at the ICJ or whether it's in federal court in the United States, we're really looking to government to do everything that they can to uphold their duty to prevent an unfolding genocide," says Shamas.

Here’s a snippet: Every single time the UN attempted to pass a resolution against Israel to halt the construction of settlements in the West Bank and to prevent harm to Palestinians, the US vetoed it. The US has vetoed resolutions on Israel a total of 46 times. Now, go figure why no significant action could be taken in the past 75 years. When a bully (US) rises to the status of a superpower, this is the inevitable outcome.

Only 1/4 of our population earns enough to pay taxes and it's our tax money that is being used to fund this legal attack on Israel. And it's not because we don't have employment. It's because our government is comprised of a political party that is corrupt and does everything in its power to destroy our country. Now I hope you protest the corruption in South Africa... That man you see on TV with the bald head is our Minister of Justice but there's hardly any justice in South Africa - we possibly are the most violent country in the world if you add up the child rapes and abuses, rapes of women, just general violence and the fact that our citizens hire private security because the police are corrupt and don't come if you call. Because the so-called burglar purchased that territory and did not kick anybody out of it. That's why 2 million Arabs are still living in Israel. Ottoman lands were conquered by Brits, who handed them off to UN. UN made a decision to give portion to Israel. It was a very very small portion. Less was given than actually promised. 85% of the land went to Palestinians. 90% of the land that Israel got was uninhabited.
