West African leaders from ECOWAS, backed by the United States and France, met today to consider military action to restore the ousted Niger President Mohamed Bazoum following last month's military coup. Neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso have threatened that any intervention in Niger would amount to a declaration of war on them, as well. This comes as leaders of the coup in Niger have appointed a 21-member cabinet as they forge ahead with building a new government. The coup "is a consequence of the militarization of Nigerien society" by the United States and France, which both have strong military presence in the region, explains Horace Campbell, chair of the Global Pan African Movement, North American delegation. He notes anti-French sentiment is a powerful force in Niger and across Africa as people reject the former colonizer's influence: "The French are inordinately dependent on the exploitation and plunder of Africa."

It isn't. It's just what humans have done to each other for all history. No one is innocent. Someone took some land, from someone else, at sometime or another. That said, what we have done to heal the mistakes of the past, is grossly inadequate. I don't have an answer I'm afraid.

@@youssufalhaw2055 In the short run doesn't conflict with France that results in less foreign aid from France, less demand for local goods and services from the French military, less trade, less investment, less cross border R&D and lower real GDP? What about all Africans working shoulder to shoulder with each other and the rest of the world to have rapid socio-economic development? Bring France in. Also bring Wagner, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Australia, Brazil, Turkey, EU, Canada, USA, NATO, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt in. Majority of these idiots are puppets of the western and european colonial imperialistic countries. Every African MUST support the people of NIGER REPUBLIC to repeal the force and threat against it's country. This is absolutely not acceptable for African countries to be threatening another African country with WAR on behalf of a colonial powers to restore constitutional order which exploits African resources. YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP. SICKENING! ECOWAS should be disband immediately as it is working AGAINST the interest of AFRICANS. We would NOT accept the idea to remain ENSLAVE through exploitation of resources and labor. Africans MUST be willing to DIE for their countries if they want freedown. ECOWAS as an entity does NOT have any business or right telling the people of NIGER who should or shouldn't lead them. Majority of the African people are clear in understanding that we would find our path to the future without the supression and opression of the colonial power. We would not let these war mongering super power turn African into another Afghanistan state. If they desperately want the resources, they should come and kill us for it. But we AFRICANS would no longer participate in a constitutional order that oppresses us and prevent future prosperity for our people. The people of Niger are ready for ECOWAS standby millitary. Africans are fed up of the EXPLOITATION of resources and labor, poor healthcare system, poor education system, political and legal corruption, lack economic prosperity, poor infrastructure and high unemployment and political interferences and POVERTY. We are putting a STOP to it now and chattering our own path for the future. ECOWAS is working for the interest of the imperialistic powers rather than focusing on the economic sustainability of AFRICA.

Horace Campbell is intellectually dishonest or just plain stupid. It suits him to live in a free and democratic America while encouraging military coups and dictatorships in African countries. The establishment of US military outposts in the Sahel region is intended to educate the local army to combat Isis, Al-Qaeda, and Boko Haram, which have been active in the region, causing a humanitarian refugee crisis that has forced millions of people to escape their homes. Boko Haram invaded a school in Northern Nigeria a few years ago and seized hundreds of girls. The whereabouts of the majority of those girls are still unknown some years later. A couple of them recently escaped while carrying babies.

As a child I was fascinated why Africa was poor. I always thought it was corrupt leaders or military warlords. Some of this was true. Time Africa stood for itself. Get on with it. Recall your talents in other land, bring about democracy, shore up law and order, find customers for your assets. But equally no foreign aid, no asylum. I hope the best for the west African countries. I hope this young leader is peaceful and hands democracy back in time but military leaders don’t have a great track record.

WoW! Thank you for this. Horace Campbell sums it up directly in terms of African interests - not in terms of the interests of the collective West. A united Africa has always been anathema to Western interests in Africa. In an multipolar world (coming soon!) an African block (that only operates in accord with the interests of African people) could be a global powerhouse! Three cheers for the good guys and gals! Peace and reconstruction - a slogan for all of Africa.

The actions of these individuals resemble a non-violent power takeover. While it might initially appear detrimental to democracy, one must consider the country's geopolitical and post-colonial context. The ousted leader acted as an enabler for the ongoing subjugation of the Nigerien population, withholding the advantages of their rich natural resources from them and maintaining a reliance on external aid, which is known to lack long-term benefits. It's disheartening to see African nations imposing harsh sanctions on their brethren to appease Western powers. The younger generation of Africans must mobilize and champion sustainable change, positioning Africa as a rising global force

Militaries in countries in Africa are not as strong as western capitalist countries make them out to be, to the contrary, they are weak militaries but what they are they represent the only organized social structure of the exploited mass of people in Africa. The terrorists and colonists are foreign elements unwanted by a majority of people harmed by their presence in Africa. The raw material of Africa has and continues to be extracted by colonists is the real story uncovered by the military coup is in the eyes of Nigerians a bold step toward freedom from French and American colonialism and capitalism.

African military is quite the opposite of what you are saying. African military was heavily relied upon to free the west from becoming nazi colonies in the two European wars. Furthermore, we have seen instances of altercations, on equal pedestal, between armies of developing nations and so called developing nations, for example Somalia "Black Hawk Down". The west has weak armies and often rely on attacking as a group isolated entities in order to win their battles. But when faced with a formidable United army, they scampered. Look at how easily the west got beaten in Vietnam, North Korea, and Afghanistan. If the west launches an attack on the coalition of west African governments that are standing up with Niger, without their west African puppets, then mark my words, the US together and its allies will get worse than Vietnam, irrespective of technology. They say "seeing is believing" so they can always try and see. Even the US is reluctant getting into this fight and drags its feet behind its diplomatic posture.

My comments are generally directed to chip away at the fear mongering in the news, a counter weight, to the mass psychological repression in the news the American audience are subjected. But I would throw this theory at you about why the US is reluctant to engage...it is because Americans will oppose a war if they see their kids coming home in caskets which is why the news never show the deceased and 2., the Pentagon officials pledge to have others do the fighting for the US. As more and more are reluctant to exchange raw material for weapons and US training that plan falls apart@@firstblessings8777

@@firstblessings8777 So many things wrong with what you wrote. Black hawk down resulted in many more casualties for the insurgents than the US army, it's just that this wasn't even good enough for the USA. Vietnam wasn't easy for anyone. North Korea was hardly easy either, it took massive amounts of chinese troops and casualties. As for A-stan, it is mountaineous and hard to keep control of.

@Kamfrenchie Everything you wrote, not one, I repeat, not one counteracted any points I made, even though you had to pepper and salt the real accounts to suit your own taste lol!

@@firstblessings8777 I did actually, you made a very bad attempt at simplification of various conflicts. the idea that western armies are just weak is rather ludicrous, given that Mali couldn't defend itself against jihadis, and it took an expeditionary force of approx 5000 french troops to retake the towns. That's not because africans make bad soldiers, mind you, it has more to do with a lot of corruption and stealing by malian officers, and that happens in other countries

It’s so great to know that someone is talking about this in English for Americans to understand what’s really going on in Africa. Everyone just google the colonial agreements between France and our countries, you will understand everything. Because of these agreements, France think it own French speaking countries . They even forbid our countries to exploit some mines like in Mali because they want to keep that as reserve for themselves. Thank God the malien new gouvernement denounced these agreements,we just need our own money.

Wow! Brilliant interview Professor Campbell! Yea, say it as it is! Respect! It’s a pleasure to see someone states facts and tell nothing but the truth. This is what the world needs to hear. We want real journalism with objectivity, not big schemes and lies in a manipulative way. Thank you for putting this out there for all to see!

Probably the most biased. Most disguised. They are the front for the real elite, working their way through by using collectivism. They unite, then instill their leaders, then plunder by proxy, the African leaders. This is what they’ve done in Rhodesia and South Africa, now compete disasters.
