During the war in Afghanistan (2001-present), over 31,000 civilian deaths due to war-related violence have been documented; 29,900 civilians have been wounded. Over 111,000 Afghans, including civilians, soldiers and militants, are estimated to have been killed in the conflict.

they purposely separate the tasks in drone operation to disseminate the 'guilt' and culpability of a strike. No single 'operator' is in control of the entire strike and it is therefore a matter of 'just taking orders.' like good soldiers do. 'Joystick pilots' are just flying the drone. target acquisition is up to someone else, arming the weapon and firing it are up to someone else. the chain of command is in place.

Downside of killing through remote control is communication. You obey orders, you cannot communicate directly with the subjects and decide on your own conclusion. Besides, watching the monitor screen you can concentrate more on the suffering of the victim, while on spot you usually have got to watch out against other attacks and don't observe the victims so carelessly.

Here's another thing. I met a guy that worked on a new system for drone strikes. He said there's about a 4 second delay from the video feed and thats unacceptable for taking shots at moving target. Brandon Bryant I'd like to ask you several questions, i'd appreciate it if you answer them: 1) Did you watch Al Jazeera's documentary about collateral murder? they actually went and interviewed the innocent victims families.. What do you think of it?. 2) Did you develop any chronic back-pains or sight problems from prolonged missions? if so, then since the U.S is becoming like Israel - then are you going to file for disability requests?. 3) Have you received any medals for your participation in the program & have you received any death threats & has anyone ever came close to assaulting you?. 4) Can you think of any reason - that sounds logical for the brain to say "Yeah, he's totally right" to justify the killing of your children or if you have no off-springs then the children of your friends, relatives or family members?. Can you please tell all of us a sentence that would justify you or any other drone pilot or operator to sit in a cockpit or a control room and fire a hellfire missile that kills a child or pre-born baby in his mothers womb?. 5) You don't seem that concerned about the fact you've committed genocide (1626 is equivalent in quantity to a small village), wheres the evidence/proof of your claims?, military discharge record, some certificate that proves your participation... (Just curious to see what's written on them). 6) You seem upset about killing people but didn't you ever think of "Why i didn't fire" or "We should fire more missiles" like all israeli pilots seem to be upset about?, what is your biggest upset from this experience?. 7) Do you think blue skies will ever be safe again? do you feel fear from blue skies? do you worry about the powers over the u.s maybe turning the drones and military on its own people soon?. These are serious questions, they are all trick questions. My comment: Personally i would not shed a single tear if somehow the people you & your countrymen have been bombing do somehow infiltrate and liquidate all the people & equipment inside the drone's main operational airbase but i think what's going to happen is just americans making more movies to cry out the guilt and then conclude you weren't fighting or bombing afghans, somalis, iraqi's, pakistanis, yemeni's, libyan's, sudanese or syrians but fighting yourselves... We could & will never rely on Israeli dynamic to end change its methodology of genocide, the U.S whom used to condemn Israel for 'targeted killings' as they were never targeted (Salah Shahade, best example) now talks about preemptive strikes against "imminent threats" that work on the core basis: if someone even thinks of harming america - even if he's just a peasant with no internet or electrify then he must be taken out in a drone strike, even if we dont have any evidence he conceived such notions in the first place, its only important that we speculate he did and thats enough.. Thats the evidence. P.S i hope to see two things in my life: A) The u.s falls into civil war and americans get a taste of their own medicine while the rest of the world pulls out popcorn and enjoys the vile filth of this planet fade away without being dragged into a needless, pointless world war 3 that would still end with the u.s empire collapsing. B) punishment to all murders - be it the CIA backed and funded ISIS mass murderous pieces of shit or people like U.S officials like rumsfield & obama, you specially are just a tool - replaceable with ease but your superiors that run the show are not and they are the ones responsible.. Now if some how you got punished by several bullets from a silenced pistol to the head, i wouldn't shed a tear, but if that does happen in the u.s - it better happen where it would matter (i know it will never happen, but thats how much hatred it derives from people like me & others in western asia, that are just fucking so angry at drone strikes and our incapability to just shoot them all down..Only country capable of doing that is Iran which isn't a u.s backed puppet state like KSA is.. )
@justletuslive10 жыл бұрын
Brandon Bryant What you said really touched me, extremely unfortunate situation we all live in. You were simply following orders while you were aware of the fact: something is not right here. In the back of your mind you knew its not your fault because if it wasn't you operating the system then it would of been someone else, but.. I think at age 20-21 its really hard to just step up and say no or to change the policy/the way its carried out, you are more soft then for propaganda and ordering.. I know because i see it right here where i live (Israel). More people should hear this, you should speak more often and perhaps head-spear a committee that brings back humanity to its feet - humanize everyone, but i also realize you repeating the horrors of your story could deeply and negatively effect your well-being. I think you could take charge and testify in front of the senate in regards to the legality and validity of drone strikes & their aftermaths, as well as investigate for the u.n in a form of inquiry/inspections.. This all sounds too much though - you posting online and updating through social media is enough as well, i realize you went through a massive ordeal and i kind of know a bit how you feel since i did speak to fellow israeli soldiers that served in the IDF and they spoke of a tend of negligence and apathy when it comes to military operations in gaza & the west bank, its unbelievable pressure and feeling of guilt but what you're doing opens up people's eye and makes us all realize - we're all human. And this shit needs to stop, there is no need for us to conflict and war each other all the time, we can simulate the period of el amarna and equalize the powers on the world through peace treaties and trades that don't subjugate enslavement of nations but place everyone on the same playing field and equality. See if i could turn from just extreme anger at you (wanting to see you get punished) - to understanding and compassion then anyone can do the same... Even the worse of criminals in western asia (arabia), eastern asia, europe and africa were at one point or the other innocent people too.. From the child soldier in Africa that was raised and brainwashed to kill to the u.s soldier that's placed in situations where he has to commit atrocities under false pretexts while being misguided/misinformed by his officials. We all make mistakes, real men correct them and make sure they never happen again. But you are right, more killing and killing will only bring more.. Killing, pain, sorrow & death..Which isn't beneficiary to humanity, we must stop this waterfall of blood thats being shed in the name of religion, democracy, rule of law & freedom all over the world. If you can learn to hate blindly then you can learn to love blindly, now days i feel so much more desensitized from it all, everyone does.. It's like everyone is just waiting for their turn to for shit to get ugly for them. But your comment actually awoke me because you took your time and wrote back, logically and sanely and what you said perfectly made sense and you did not avoid the trick questions my peers keep asking but never get an answer for (we ask it on state tv, online shows etc.. "What justifies the killing of your child", which is: nothing justifies it, no father can see his child killed for any reason at a young age, no father or mother could ever want the same feeling for any other parent, to have your child snatched from you..). I thank you and i salute your courage.. Really well spoken and you understand your situation perfectly.. I have to do more as well here, i don't do enough when i can do much more, your defensive statement made so much sense to be honest.. I did not expect such a strong response, you can never be a politician though - because politicians have to lie :P. Stay safe and take care of yourself. (edit: The name of the al jazeera documentary i've mentioned is called Permission to engage, shown on their tv program Witness.. Its shocking, they've really done their research on that event, not just superficial research and lip service like fox news, found here: www.aljazeera.com/programmes/witness/2012/08/2012823616123717.html Now days al jazeera lost all of its objectivity and is responsible for the sectarian strife in iraq and syria, it was good till the arab spring started.. ).

Brandon maybe spared because he is remorseful and trying to do the right thing .. I hope he doesn't end up in hell like his CIA comrades who got blown up at Khost ! This is the nature of war sadly. You go to war and people die. Sadly, killing your brother comes with a cost. The Mark of Cain is a mark in your brain that never goes away. I pray these soldiers can come to terms with what they have done. I hope they can remember that Afghanistan did attack us first. Either way its a rough thing to live with.

Extremely interesting to see how a video game serial killer thinks. He has virtually no information to go on, except what a blurry screen tells him. I remember Hollywood made a propaganda film a few years ago about drones, with Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel (Stealth was the name). Hollywood has a mude bigger impact on more people than this guy ever will. Of course they made it look sexy and attractive to conceited young boys who don't know any better. And that's exactly what this guy got suckered into. Only a few thousand innocent people have to die to justify the trillions in expenses, but it's worth it for the glamourous and extravagant lifestyle.

I don't think he can see in detail like what he say ,all he can see a blurry screen only half way around the world.

Brandon Bryant I no longer think negatively of drone operators or anyone else working for the corporate elite. I'm not against the corporate elite who take advantage of people's good will because they can hide key information from us all. I've since come to the conclusion that a movement needs to started that allows for any killing to be possible - and any kind of torture but to limit the territory of jurisdiction. There's only a few things that should be done on a global scale - such as free transportation. The movement would also provide everyone with free organic food and free housing. The world isn't perfect, but we should at least try - the world's armies CAN be used for good purposes. Failing to at least try is resulting in this sanitized, narrow perspective of the world with absolutely no oversight of leadership. I'm opting in for something better than this garbage. GMO food, fluoride poisoned water, autism causing vaccines etc are all unnecessary parts of our garbage global system that may be good at some level but the bad far outweighs it.

i have some sympathy for conscripted soldiers, but not much for people who volunteer to kill people far away on the word of some officer who is listening to a politician. but at least you broke loose from the evil. last i heard, they haven't conscripted anyone since the vietnam war. when you signed up, you handed your gun hand to someone else, and not a good person, either. i did that too, long ago, because i was not eating regularly [the replacement program for conscription] and soon came to feel, being hungry was better by far.

They (US Military) have the best intel on the planet. He says that his second op, that they (the insurgents) were being watched for days, and he got the fire order from above. So whoever that was watching from their "chatroom" locations had to know that there was a number of "friendlies" at that location. But the order was given anyway. I don't blame him or his squadron. I commend him for stepping out. We all know that this was and is going on, he just solidified it to being fact. Pray for him.

I will agree this much with you placenik. America needs to start minding their own damn business. We should not be police for the entire world. Personally, I would be for pulling our troops home, closing our borders, and telling the whole world have at it and go get bent. However, the rich and powerful in all these countries will never let that happen. I'm all for a seclusionist America.

A tax payer in general, supporting the system the way it works and murders people.... shouldent they also have to stand trial for the all the deaths and horrible killings at the day of judgement , people need to be aware of what their tax money goes to and who they support and in what ways their money support from tax dollars is spendt!
@twn585810 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. People don't pay taxes voluntarily. They pay taxes because they know if they don't mindless mercenaries, like Brandon Bryant, will come and attack them if they don't.
@twn585810 жыл бұрын
Brandon Bryant You should stand trial you piece of shit, but don't worry the government gang isn't going to attack one of their own.
@twn585810 жыл бұрын
Brandon Bryant That will not happen. Don't you find it bizarre that if some government politicians scribbles something down on a piece of paper all of a sudden that makes killing ok in some people's minds? That must be some kind of magical ink that those guys are using. Either that or some powerful propaganda they are using. My bet is on the latter.

@siirivan88339 жыл бұрын
Your attitude is reflective of a 12 year olds. I hope that you aren't wanting to be a pilot for the Air Force or any branch of any military. Specifically, Im sure you're talking about the US military. Right? The US military today is not what our founding fathers wanted. If you do join, you're not serving the people or the Constitution. You'll serve corruption and profiteers of Washington. If placed in battle and survive you'll be in a hell of PTSD. After the military, you'll probably be just another veteran who thought his country's government would welcome him or thought he could get away with stuff in the military. Don't let patriotism get in your way or ignorance.
@Unmedicated_Moments9 жыл бұрын
CoD Chernobyl My attitude is reflective of a 12 year old? By saying that I wanted to be a pilot of some sort? Kinda hypocritical don't you think? Seeing how you jump to conclusions about my age from a simple comment on youtube. Well I'm sorry that you are a military bashing asshole, but I'm serving my country whether you like it or not. Call me whatever you want, but you will always be an asshole to me. I am a patriot and have a passion for flying, now leave me to my dream
@siirivan88339 жыл бұрын
Obivously you're very ignorant. You ignore obvious facts. Again you won't be serving the country. Looks like you'll die for some bankster overrunning Washington or a sellout politician. Just remember when you swear oath to Constitution, you'll serve it, and remember any enemy to the Constitution, Foreign or DOMESTIC should be dealt with. Lets just hope if you really retain that oath you won't end up like Chris Dorner.

@twn585810 жыл бұрын
Paddy Theosophist Why? Their orders would be meaningless if there wasn't mindless mercenaries willing to follow those orders. If some lunatic gave me an order to kill someone I wouldn't do it. Period. I would never bypass my conscious of what is right and wrong. What's the point of even having a conscious if you don't listen to it?
