Yeah, because not gonna lie, their view on this entire situation is very clearly obscured by Western politics. The French guy went through that entire 'explanation' without once acknowledging that the new Syrian government hates Iran and Hezbollah (there fore not a Hamas suporter). He just talked about Israel. They don’t see Israel as much of a threat as they see Iran as a threat. Iran is genuinely concerned about this entire situation too. This could mean the actual end of Iran’s and Russia’s meddling in all these countries, and Syrians are very aware of it. All my Syrian friends are literally joking that Syria is the reason Ukraine will win the war and that we should thank them. Like, talk to the actual people. See what they are actually concerned about.

The clothes are cleaned for the prime minister free of charge by the U.S. staff, a perk that is available to all foreign leaders but sparingly taken advantage of given the short stays of busy heads of state.

The homes destroyed by security forces belonged to Palestinians who were not suspected of any involvement in causing harm to Israeli civilians or security forces. They were given no opportunity to plead their case before any instance and received no compensation for the damage they sustained. IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION? I was listening to the morning world news on National Public Radio (NPR) this morning as usual and they were interviewing Syrian political prisoners who had been released from Assad’s torture prison a couple of days ago when Assad was overthrown. The tales of torture are mind-numbingly horrifying and disturbing beyond words. Assad imprisoned over ten thousand of his own people during his 20+ reign of terror, most for no apparent reason whatsoever, other than to send a message terror to his citizens to maintain his iron grip on absolute power. This is what authoritarians do. Not all resort to the extremes of running assembly-line torture chambers but most are prepared to go there if necessary. What really astounds me is how many Americans seem incapable of connecting what happens in these dictator countries to what is happening right now in front of us in our own country. Trump is shouting his intentions to rule with an iron fist loudly from the rafters every day as he appoints people to his cabinet who are clearly authoritarian anti-democracy figures. But still… most who voted for this felon rapist seem blissfully unconcerned and unaware that they may personally be on the verge of slipping into the abyss of totalitarianism from which there may be no return. Once you are in that abyss, the slopes you need to climb to exit it are very high and very slippery. There IS still an option to avoid that abyss. The Biden administration could refuse to hand over power to a convicted criminal and a tyrant using the 14th Amendment. The rest of the world is astonished that Biden is standing placidly by like a deer caught in headlights watching democracy slip away without honoring his oath of office to protect and preserve it. Trump is giving us plenty of warning. WHY is no one with the power to prevent this taking steps to do so? This will be the big question future historians and our own children will have for those of our time. I personally can see no answer that could justify such negligence. The specter of Assad is hanging over our own nation right now. Is anyone paying attention?

What a laughable response form the USA State department. "a jurisdictional dispute". Like crimes of this magnitude change when you cross a border. And Syria, a leftover of the Ottoman empire that welded together a vast array of ethnic and religious populations under the minority Alawite rule of the Assad family. Yep. a well thought out recipe for enlightenment, peace and prosperity for all, without any possibility of serious internal conflict and tyrannical violations of human rights. So one piece of the existing ME geopolitical chess board has been removed (essentially a knight at best) and now everyone is theorizing what moves will be made next in this destructive game. Joseph Daher's hopes for democracy in the region are valiant. But look democracy is not working all that well in the west (Europe and USA etc.). It has been corrupted by powerful monied interests where a class of oligarchs and their corporate enterprises rig the electoral outcomes by massive amounts of propaganda aimed at an badly educated electorate. I doubt the next ruler of Syria is going to be anything like Plato's ideal rational philosopher king. Now let's quote the guy who thought he was an enlightened philosopher king: “Hope is not blind optimism. It's not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It's not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.” Yet, reality is Trump and a move towards an American theocracy run by oligarchs who will use any lie to maintain their control. I hold that hope as written above is a philosopher's dream that many, who lack the mental courage, use to mask the horrors of a reality that at first impacts only a few, but eventually can engulf thousands and eventually millions. The arch of history is a precarious swing between progress and tragic catastrophe. The last major catastrophe ended roughly 8 decades ago, the awing back towards another may have started in the last two or three.

If they were really smart, they'd turn to their neighbor, Israel, one of the world's most vibrant democracies, for help. But I'm afraid they're doomed to go the Arab way of autocracy, which dominates.

This interviewee’s first comment was about “strikes Israel has been making since Assad’s fall.” Those strikes were 100% against Assad’s massive stash of weapons. Would you prefer those weapons be used by the Islamists instead? This exposes who and what you are…and Democracy Now, for that matter.
@PamDigiovanniКүн бұрын
Give me a break!! You mean Israel wouldn’t want the stash used against them! After all they are the ones with all the power, thanks to the USA taxpayers!!!

How the heck do you know how criminal it was when major leaders, professors, politicians cannot agree on anything regarding Syria? The US and Israel are more criminal governments at the moment than many others around the world.
