tuition is already *very* high, and in this economy, fewer families than ever are able to pay the sticker price, hence, enrollment's down.

Maybe if they admitted students on qualifications and not race or color nor sex or religion , and insuring the students have a chance of graduating instead of dropping out due to them not capable of doing collage level study's ??? Maybe pushing communist and socialist ideals isnt the best rout to take ?? Maybe making students hate the US , capitalism , white people , and Christians is a good policy , I am so happy they are closing and i hope it is quick and painfull , i hope they never get another teaching position again ,

It sounds to me that foul play happened at the college. And that trustee sounded disingenuous and shifty. The fact that he hung up before the interview was over say it all for me. What I think happened is the trustee and others embezzled the college funds. There is no way that suddenly a college goes from looking ok to sudden financial crisis. This reminds me of Sears. And dozens of other buisiness that went under. And dozens of other higher education facilities. All had finacial crimes done to them, to force their closer and bankruptcy.
@dmitrypepper5 жыл бұрын
The Trustees did not embezzle the college funds. It was a quick decision and it was partly to blame for the Mass of Board of Education idea of proposing a law that would require colleges to have 150 million dollars for four years at a time. It was then never put into effect. I think Hampshire saw this and panicked and jumped the gun. It's a tricky situation where the administration has some good plans and the community has goods plans, but both some how conflict each other. There's also the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" mentality across our campus. My opinion is, there shouldn't be any layoffs until we hear everything from the new Re-Envisioning group and community and see how much funds the alumni groups raise to help Hampshire. If this is not enough, Hampshire will say that and then a potential merger will be needed, in my humble opinion. Hampshire College student here.

Professors ain't cheap. They don't do socialism when it comes to their wages and benefits. Plus, the administration size in colleges has gone bananas. There is a very simple way to deal with student demands. Charge per service. The paying customer is always king.

I think the first speaker from the college, a Professor with "4 decades of teaching behind her" typifies the reasons for the plight of this (another, yet again!) 'Liberal Arts College' in massive, possibly terminal decline! She immediately professed shock and dismay at the decision to terminate many contracts yet she admitted that this establishment is (as they all should be!) tuition-fee dependent! She said that in the full knowledge (from many sources both within and without the college) that the new freshman intake for the Autumn semester, will be around a mere 15 students! The whole ethos of learning/education at this place is, and has been, an absolute shambles for many years, certainly since they took the decision in 2012 to increase their intake of part-financed, undocumented students! Is this learned professor suggesting that this establishment is a charity with some educational offshoots as an afterthought! They don't even grade students for goodness sakes, and they permit students to 'construct' the content of their courses, a recipe for ultimate disaster! No coincidence one can safely say, that Religious/Conservative colleges are turning away potential students and are at capacity, whilst every defined, Liberal Arts College is running into the ground at a rate of knots!
