Amazon preaches about safety during orientation but neglects all of that. I’m sorry but the amount of shit that us Amazon employees do $15 is not enough. On top of that you get an hour break for more than a 10+ shift. Not to mention we’re forced to work overtime as they issue it to be mandatory. This entire month was mandatory for extra shifts because they decided to do an entire week of Black Friday and their employees pay the price. Amazon is wonderful but it can also go to hell for the shit that they pull.

The workers are contracted through "Driver Service Partners." Their employer is the individual "DSP" that gives them their paycheck every two weeks. If a DSP doesn't have enough drivers to cover their routes, the DSP owes Amazon money AND loses the route for the day. If the DSP doesn't improve performance, they can be fired by Amazon. If a DSP says to Amazon they can't do their agreed upon routes, Amazon will find another DSP or get more Amazon Flex drivers to cover the routes.
@ArleeStarr2 сағат бұрын
That has nothing to do with the workers' right to organize a union and join the Teamsters.
@alexpope4642Сағат бұрын
I think the point they're trying to make is that if the DSP is directly beholden to amazon then they are amazon employees.

Everyone I know who has ever worked at Amazon and their fulfillment center has incurred some type of physical injury in less than two years of being employed there. And I don’t mean some basic injury I mean a life changing muscles, torn bones, broken screws, inserted injury. So when you can sit and how hard these people work their bodies for money that they can barely live off of, they should all strike and quit.
@SomeGuyFromUtah5 сағат бұрын
I don't like the practice of using 3rd party contractors and dressing them up like Amazon employees and driving Amazon owned vehicles to deliver packages, but I don't think the current law sides with these employees who are technically employees of 3rd party contractors and not Amazon directly. There needs to be better clarification on the rules for this type of practice. Whether it's a 3rd party company contracting with Amazon to deliver packages or gig workers like Uber or Doordash. I would be surprised if Amazon gives in on this.

Four more years of Trump will end in the utter demise of the labor movement and the immiseration of a large portion of workers while furthering the concentration of income, wealth and power among a corporate and billionaire elite. Biden and the Democrats are not out to destroy unions and, will blunt the corporate/Republican anti-union crusade. And, at best, Biden and the Democrats will enact pro-worker legislation to the degree that unions and progressive groups are mobilized and activated. While the Democrats represent the possibility of pro-worker legislation especially if pushed by mass mobilization, Trump and the Republicans are out to destroy unions no matter what we do.

The Teamsters Union is overstepping by targeting Amazon for labor disputes involving third-party contractors. These workers are employed by independent companies, not Amazon, making the contractors legally responsible for wages, benefits, and safety. The Teamsters misrepresent their authority, bypass actual employers, and risk misleading the public while stretching the “joint employer” argument. Their actions divert accountability from contractors, politicize the issue, and risk harm to workers by focusing on headlines rather than effective solutions. The proper approach should hold contractors accountable and use legal channels to address grievances.
