Great shout out for Fred Dibnah. Growing up in the UK he was a real character and I loved his enthusiasm for the industrial revolution and the innovations that brought about, like steam engines.

Happy birthday Scott. I'm from Bolton, Fred Dibnah was a hero of the town. His house was up the road from where I lived, he had steam locomotives and a mine shaft he excavated himself in his garden. There is a big statue of him in the town centre.

theres a very relaxing quality about your personality, and style of your videos. just a few hours ago i was panicking about work, so i put your videos on as BGM, and now i'm a lil calmer. so thanks for the content Scott! you really make the tough demolition and renovation work look easy.

He was a "man's man", had brass balls the size of Mellon's; just watch him knocking in metal hooks in to the big round chimney and winching up ladders with him as he goes, no harness, just a long bit of rope, some metal hooks with little bits of rope on each (5 foot if I remember correctly (he was completely imperial in all he did, no metric for him)) a hammer and enough ladders to get to the top with small crossovers between each ladder and some wooden off stands at each end of the ladder. As a child I was in awe of him, he was so brave and almost super hero like. Loved seeing all his steam and coal powered industrial kit that he had installed in his garden, was a legend. RIP Fred.
@HootMaRoot4 жыл бұрын
He was an awesome guy to watch. Best thing was there wasn't much health and safety bs back then these days you would need 50 grands worth of scaffolding round a chimney not to mention all the hazard awareness forms filled out. While he would be up there after lunch having had 3 or 4 pints with his cheese butty

Really enjoying your series of videos on this renovation Scott. Your shoutout to Fred Dibnah made me comment! As I was watching you knock down the chimney I was thinking of Fred. He was a bit of a national institution in the UK, and his programmes were still repeated in the 80s and 90s when I was a boy. So I grew up watching him knock down stuff! The way he disappeared up an indistrial chimneys on ladders alone (no ropes!) was incredible.

Hi Scott, not only was he a nutter when it came to knocking down chimneys and he liked nothing better than scaring the locals and sometimes even the people he was working for, but he had another skill as a stand-up comic and their wasn’t a dry eye in the house from laughing so much. Another character you want to check out was “Blaster Bates”, his stories will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.

I like that you show the careful preparation for your jobs Scott. So many times the guys I work with just want to get the hammers & saws out and it always ends up creating more work overall. It's easy to feel that prep time is wasted time, or worry that the customer will be wondering why you "haven't started yet". I even feel it myself, even though I should know better. In the workshop, unless I'm making sawdust it's easy to tell myself I'm not working or earning. However preparation is always the key to a good, long lasting and better value result. It can be hard to price jobs competitively when you factor in that real-world prep time needed to do first class work. Thank you for showing us that good work takes time and care.
@peterhanson39624 жыл бұрын
The care and attention that you guys take to your work is now becoming legendary. If only all contractors were like you. Clearing up as you go also makes the job much easier and customers appreciate conscientious attention to the job. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.

I am in NZ and took my chimney out this year. Though mine was made of rectangular concrete interlocking preforms. When they came out whole it was great, but when they didn't they had wire ring reinforcing that had to be cut to break them apart. Made a bit of a mess, but now that I have a modern log burner instead of an open firepalce, I love it.

Hi mate, sorry to hear your a member of poxy Cancer club too, yes I’m same as you and just try to keep moving forward, I’m on more meds and stuff now than before to try and keep pace with it all. Redoing our house is helping keeping me going, but as you’ll know it all takes so much longer and seems to feel so much more difficult than before my brain cancer arrived. My head can be like mush somedays not able to remember stuff, which can make doing stuff around the house tricky at best. Watching Scots stuff has helped me hugely to get stuff right and once the plasterer comes next week we will be well on the way to getting downstairs ready for painting. Take care of yourself mate, I over did it a few times rebuilding stud walls and knackered myself out for a few days. All the best mart
