Few films leave me feeling privileged to have seen them like this one has

This movie is poetry in motion. I watched it with bated breath with the absurdity yet rationality of the course of events.

I watched Demolition and adored it! It was a fascinating depiction of one man's self-exploration that includes but is not limited to the grieving process over his deceased wife. I loved how he didn't find that she was pregnant until close to the end of the movie! Shocking, sure. But even more shocking that it had been terminated in abortion and that it was not his. I felt that the family he entered via holy matrimony was cold. He himself, the part that Jake plays, is not a cold man, though he gives the appearance to be so. We can tell that plainly by the way that he writes, the notes and tone in his voice, the way he connects when he destroys things! I loved the way that he just 'took things apart' and it reminded me of Little Man Tate by Jodi Foster. Genius. I feel that people show their grief in so many different ways and that this is still such a valid topic that Jake Gyllenhaal so vividly explores for us on screen. We need to see that. And feel validated ourselves. The relationships in this movie were strong! Even the relationship between Naomi Watts and Jake though they are never intimate on screen sexually it is a very strong relationship for healing. The relationship between her son and Jake was awesomely done; I could see how the boy was really searching even beyond his sexual orientation, which we instinctively feel Jake is good at dealing with (perhaps b/c of Brokeback Mountain, who knows?) and that Jake's character could relate to this adolescent boy, again in a strange or surprising way. I liked all the Demolition in this movie, I'm a big fan of the demolition process, taking things apart, and wishing we could just leave them that way, never putting them back together again, I think that's why I like the way they get beat up simultaneously (the boy and Jake) and I'm not squeamish about it! Also, I think that's why I like how the movie ends.
